Please listen and see if you can help?

I'm still having problems getting my V8 running as I want, so I've taken some video and put it on youtube to see if any of you guys can come up with any suggestions.

It is here:

There's also a Vanos noise, which makes it sound a little diesel like, but it's only the rattle that concerns me. I've done all the obvious things, it originally had a problem with the pcv which has been changed, along with associated hoses/ pipes. It's had an oil change, new plugs, new air filter, and new MAF. Only other symptoms are stalling when cold (particularly when put into reverse), and running strangely on inclines at 50-60mph, it's really smooth from the transmission at all other times, but going uphill at this speed it jerks around a little.

I'm thinking that it's probably a vacuum leak causing the poor economy (13mpg on gas), and stalling, my mechanic reckons the noise is from the cams, others have said hyrdaulic lifters I've tried hydraulic lifter treatment, no difference.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

hmmm, no idea myself... Do you have any BMW specialists near you? Personally I wouldnt let a LR tech near the BMW engine if it involves a top end re-build...

I thought it was a diesel engine.

Sounds like the cam shaft or hydraulic tappets to me...but what do I know Sad

Sounds like something in the top end (suggesting cam etc).
If you remove the camshaft covers, it may be obvious, i.e. wear.
Use a screwdriver as a steathascope, and try and narrow down which bank/ cylinder your having problems with.

It sounds like it's coming from the drivers side of the engine. The mechanic I would be getting to look at it is an independent who runs the l322 4.4 with lpg as his personal car, so I am quite happy that he knows the engine well. He's also an lpg convertor, and works on vehicles sent to him by the local main dealer (as they won't touch any lpg vehicles).

If it's the cams, is this an expensive job? Also anything that would be logical/sensible to do at the same time? Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

it sounds like the tappets to me and may be a bit cam as well, when you come of the throttle the tappets can be heard..you cant make a diag from a video but it does give some idea, if you were going to attempt to find out what the prob is, i would as mentioned,,, use a long screw driver of stethoscope and find out what ones are making the noise, hot and cold.. then whip of the covers and check these ones..look at the cam lobes to see if there is extensive were, could be an oil starvation prob at some point. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.
