how far would you go for your dog

so last night the usual fireworks started and our wichon got severe panic attacks...normally during the november fireworks we can distract her by playing ball and having the tv volume up a bit but last night was different.
she's eight years old and in good health but we've never seen her panic this way , so around 10.30pm my wife ,dog and i bundled into the westie and drove up to Barbury Castle which has a car park over looking Swindon..
stayed there till midnight ,watched a few fireworks and then drove home...dog was much settled as soon as we got into the westie..

would you have done that for your dog or do i need to get doggy earplugs..... ... - .- -.

Our boy started getting really anxious and started pacing and panting..his heart was pounding so we did the same. I tried playing his favourite tug of war game but the fireworks got louder and he got worse. Ended up driving to the forth road bridge and watched Edinburghs fireworks from 20miles away rather than in our garden 10mins from the castle..dog was my utmost priority

Stan, your not mad. Laughing

They are part of the family and we would do the same. Our golden Labrador gets treated like royalty by the wife and she always says that the dog comes before me Big Cry Regards

Same here, although we live quite close to Salisbury plain so the dogs are used to loud bangs! However last night seemed particularly loud, it quietened down around 12:30 then some prat stated off again at 1:30am! We have some 'townies' at the end of our garden who have the house as a weekend cottage, and, of course it was them! No consideration for the people that actually live there all the time!

"Our" 2-1/2 yo Labrador * didn't bat an eyelid even with the fireworks about 500m away. She slept on the floor beside my chair.

* She's not really ours, she's a guide dog we are temp. caring for until she starts work with a client in 3 weeks time. Ron B. VK2OTC

How it should be here, organised events only.
My wife has two horses, an ex racehorse and a 38 year old pony. Both have to have sedolin to calm them down on new year and bonfire night, and it took her most of the day to check the fields for spent rocket and firework shells!
