Skinned quarter

Got a good deal on a nearly mint rear quarter, same colour so I could instal and just paint seams for now😊 I have rust. While removing skin I have seen two bad spots. 1 bad spot is at very bottom of wheel well, the wheel well doesn't fully meet the outer fender by like 10mm and is filled in with seam sealer which I found was dried out with rust underneath. I will be redoing this on both sides, arrows are pointing to the spot on second pic. Also on third pick I saw where water was getting in through pillar cap plastic rivet and dripping on seam causing rust. Probably a good idea to oil the death out of these back pillars.

This one looked completely mint, no visual rust on outside at all. Only saw rust when I pulled off that seam sealer. If anyone was curious well, here you go.

Yep, will coat it with something. I will be removing the old seam sealer and redoing it on both sides anyway though, it is dried out and almost like chalk. The hole is big enough to stick my little finger through, guess there must be a reason that hole exists and gets filled with seam sealer. You would never see it coming unless you removed audio equipment and insulation. The quarter I bought is cherry. Not even any paint missing on lip.

Thank you. Either that or thinking windshield adhesive, that stuff seams to stay flexible. Just hoping some guys with mint L322's take the time to look in that corner and address any issue. Body shop guys I know say that they now would only spot weld in a couple spots and use body panel epoxy on the rest, seems interesting.

Tiger seal is polyurethane adhesive, same stuff they use for windscreens, just in a one pack that takes a bit longer to go off....

Rear wings are very structural on the 322, you must have noticed the gauge of the wing is thicker than most cars, they need to be welded on and not just stuck on like a lot of modern day cars where the outer panels have little to no structural strength... Thumbs Up Pete

Thank you, will weld it then, appreciate the input. The whole thing is heavy, shoved it in back of L322😳 To get it home, will use the wife's LR3 to bring leftover to scrap yard😏.

Hmmm, must also figure out why her wagon is so hard on fuel, I use 17ltr per 100km in town winter, 16ltr summer. Hers uses 21/22 in winter and 18 in summer. Think it's her small motor, 4.0 Ford V6. On highway hers is better, I'm 13ltr per 100 and she's 10🤔

I was able to get a good look inside of what i guess is the frame on this piece, seems mint but i think i will find a way to spray oil in there. guess there will be instructions for this in repair manual.
