2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver
The new one is finally here, now I need help :(

I knew the car had an oil leak on it when I purchased it, I could not see any leaks at top of engine so for better or worse I continued with the purchase (car has had £2000+ gearbox rebuild last month and £1000+ front end face lift, £1000+ LPG conversion)

On my way home (first drive) I could smell burnt oil when at lights, at 1 set of lights I saw some smoke coming from under the bonnet drivers side

Only picked car up tomorrow and don't have any time to look at it till Monday or even Tuesday, anyone know where I should start looking?

I know the 3.0 x5 bmw engine suffered with a bad oil sump cracking , is the 4.4 any better?

I would have thought the first thing to do would be replicate the problem and have a look then in daylight.

If the oil is being burnt, it may be leaking from somewhere onto say the exhaust, but it burns away before you see it, like when you bought it.

Hopefully its nothing too serious

sounds (and smells like I guess)

rocker cover gaskets hardened, allowing oil leaking onto hot manifold
check pcv hosing as well as excess pressure forces further leaks once fixed

remove spark plugs and check for oil in the wells too
I hope thats all its is

Can you not take it back to the dealer, legally they have to offer some sort of warranty now.

do you really want to walk away from this car?
sounds like big money has been spent on gearbox and LPG and with a facelift you may struggle to find another with all of that done

I would replace the rocker cover gaskets, pcv hoses, lower temp mod the thermostat and replace all the hoses, rad and header tank. this is maintenance stuff for the M62 imo

The car won't be rejected but I may try and action the warrenty, the gearbox rebuild was £2000 done 4 weeks ago front end upgrade looks nice in my opinion

A engine oil leak can be repaired and probably cheaper than the £2k gearbox rebuild, the only things I have found not to work are

Reverse camera fitted to rear spoiler badly, also has a fake shark find on the spoiler (just going to change spoiler I think)

Rear window wiper not working (common problem and have seal to rebuild it)

Oil leak to engine not yet investigated but from reading more than likely to be pcv valve

And a cracked windscreen (behind the old tax disc holder)

Everything else works which is its self would cost lots of time if not money trying to fix

had a day on the FF today, wasted lots of time with blowing fuse's (still not 100% sure what it was but have a idea)
the car now had full digital TV (after market, with TV in motion but looks OEM)
upgraded DVD Mk4 SatNAV system (CD based satnav in for sale section soon)
fitted my A/V in / out cable to TV unit
redone the telephone wiring have fitted a ULF but it's poor (think it's a very old one and my phone is the S7)
and added the new steering wheel badge

still not found the oil leak as yet no signs of leak on rocker covers so my guess is PCV valve / pipes associated with it, dosn't smell when on tick over just after been driven (had it on tick over most of today messing with left hand cubby hole stuff)
