Rear wheel alignmentd

Further to my post about my car handling like Censored I've found the problem, took it to have a 4 wheel alignment the other day to be told my rear wheels were 1.6mm out both sides, that explains a lot.

Trouble is they said the bolts were rusty and wouldn't touch it, but if I replace them it will be ok.

I guess it's the rear stabiliser arm eccentric bolt I need to change, is that it for rear toe adjustment?!

The toe link and the upper hub bush both have eccentric bolts, therefore both may need adjusting for correct alignment.

Surprised they didn't have a go at alignment - these places usually have a vibrator air tool to get things moving...

If you decide to replace the complete toe link, at the hub it can be a right s.o.d to remove, I had to take the grinder/hacksaw/cold chisel to both sides in order to get them out. .

Thanks for the reply as always Smile

To be honest the upper hub bush doesn't look too bad, probably the best condition on the back!

Just need to do the arms I think for now, it's the toe that is miles out Sad

Unfortunately going to Germany 2nd week of Jan, so need to get the parts ASAP I think it will be a nightmare! Hopefully give me better mpg on the 500 mile journey though, and handle better around corners!

When I tried to have mine 4 wheel aligned the guy broke a socket trying to shift the inner bolt for the track rod and the bolts had fused into the bush and nothing was going to shift them. I bought new nuts, bolts and washers and replaced the track arm and upper and lower bushes and all other nuts and bolts. The only way I managed to shift the bolts was to use an air hacksaw and chop off the bolt either side of the bush which took about an hour per side but a 1 mm angle grinder disc might go in there or a better reciprocating hacksaw but I was a little concerned about the proximity of the fuel tank for too many sparks.
My front arms were also shot which can cause handling issues

Oh god that sounds like a horror story!

Wasn't planning to change the complete arm, maybe if it's like yours I will have to Sad

Why is nothing ever easy with this stupid car!!!

And a pic, the job is ok if planned, if you are doing the hub bushes then the press kit is very useful and a decent electric hacksaw would be through in minutes but mine was a small air one that took pieces of hacksaw blade that kept braking or wearing out cutting through the bolt.

I think the hub bushes were done before I got the car, not sure but they look new!

Just need to hope the parts are in stock now!!

You should be able to find the parts easily, don't forget you needs nuts bolts and washers and give the bolts a good grease up before putting them back through the bush
i have the part numbers if you need them, britcar are usually good as are island 4x4

Don't be tempted to use pattern parts, they fail very quickly, get genuine or OEM. Dan at Duckworths will sort you a good price on OEM parts as well as Genuine... Thumbs Up

I used an HGV 3/4 drive airgun on all mine, snapped them all off real easy...!!!!!!! Pete

If the dealer doesn't have them in stock they are easily able to get them next day, they are about £12-14 per bolt with washers and nut.

As above whet the red lines are I used a reciprocating cordless saw. Went thru 5blades on the drivers side one!

It was purely down to the eccentric nut welding itself onto the face which took some whacking to get off! Both faces inside and out have now been wire brushed and high temp grease smothered over them so when it comes to going back together it will be easier for them to adjust. At least on the drivers side! I have the passenger side to do as well which I'm hoping to get away with just bushes on and leave the toe link alone. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
