Something prevents the alternator putting out a charge for the first minute or so, to assist the engine to start, that's why there is a delay... Probably the BECM

It looks like I have but not populating I have just been back out to the car and it won't start and the battery voltage is now down at 9.2 volts!!thats in about an hour. What is making the revs rise and fall is this related to low battery voltage due to battery possibly not taking charge?? Or is the new alternator dragging the voltage down, it was fine on the first drive round the block none of these problems then all thises issues started after about 15 mins. 2004 4.4V8 Vogue BMW 330CD BMW523i Escort Mexico MK1 1974 airportable series 3 Last edited by Dave 67 on 18th Dec 2016 3:19pm. Think I'd try removing the battery, (well, disconnect it anyway) fully charge it overnight and see what happens, low voltage can pull all sorts of problems and the voltage was low when you jumped it....

I've just replaced my battery..prior to replacement my idle.was up and down and it would do it with anything under 1000rpm..thought I had a bad sensor somewhere then replaced the battery and it stopped it instantly..i think the car does it if voltage is too low..mine would drop from 12.5v to 9.5v in hours after a charge.... |

Chances are the battery is toast, a failing alternator is well known for taking the battery with it.. As I said, they hate low voltage, if the battery is toast it will lose voltage very quickly... The 110amp is for the diesels, yours will work fine for now, if you have to change it there is an argument that the additional few quid for the bigger one is worth it... Pete
