TDV8 Turbo failure

Recovered in this week making a funny squeaking noise from the NS

Downpipes off, spin turbo by hand. Feeling an odd tight spot when spun

Strip turbo off to find this:

For clarity, car has 120k miles, serviced 6 weeks previously using Shell Helix Pro oil and OEM filters. EGRs were replaced 2 weeks previous (no EML, but a rough idle for 45 secs upon warm restart, the OS Valve very slightly out of sync...)

Any idea what's fallen into the turbo? What on the blades to the right or is that blade damage? ______________________________

Blade damage. Would appear that the shaft is slightly bent

No foreign objects that I can see, no evidence of oil passing the seals on either side

Was a fairly low speed failure (allegedly) when cold, pulling out a junction and went pop

Thanks. Bending the shaft and the blades like must mean something has gone through the turbo. Would that something or remnants of it, be now sitting in the intercooler or feed pipe? ______________________________

Here's a pic of the air system on a 3.6 from the WSM, which might help this discussion.

It did have a split turbo hose just a few months ago, too, incidently. Must ask the owner which hose had split Idea

Something has entered the turbo intake to cause that. I can't think of another explanation. There's not much between the filter box and the turbo.

I'm wondering if the air filter had been neglected long term and started to disintegrate or if the filter had been carelessly fitted and a piece of the foam edge has broken off and been sucked into the turbo. Or maybe someone has lost a filter box screw which dropped into the filter folds, only to be eventually sucked into the turbo.

I'm not really concerned about this type of failure. A basic level of competence and care negates the risk of the above possible causes. ______________________________
