Intermittent wipers that arnt!!

Just found another (!) problem with my new to me l322. the wipers work fine in every respect apart from intermittent, it doesn't matter what position the bezel on the stalk is in they just please them selves preferring to run at the lower speed but randomly miss the odd wipe......but...whilst sat in traffic they work as they should!....

any clues to this random behavior??

Thanks

Have you got a rain sensor? .

I would suspect rain sensor.

The intermittent wipers should be automatic depending on the level of rain - there would be a sensor by the rear view mirror.

Hi, no, no sensor and the rain was very light, just a bit of drizzle realy hence why i just wanted a slow wipe as i ducked through traffic.....

Im sure rain sensitive wipers were standard on the vogue! You need to put them into intermittent setting after the car is started for them to work as if you start with intermittent there is a fail safe incase of a frosty windscreen ruining the wiper blades. Try turning them on then pour water over the windscreen from a hose and see if they come on.

The only way it could not have rain sensing wipers is if it has had a new windscreen and the wrong one was fitted without the blue window but that would still leave the small problem of the sensor still being there somewhere , is the windscreen dirty at all up at the blacked out bit around your mirror ? 2008 MY Supercharged

Aaahhh.....Ok, I was looking for a separate sensor, there is an oblong within the rear view mirror mount that can only be seen from outside...is that it?
With regards to its operation though...it's totally random...I can turn them on to inter. And off 20 times during a drive and they react just as they want....not how I want!...the speed bezel makes no change to them, most of the time they run as if on standard wipe but with the odd hickup, turn off and back on and they react differently...this was a sequence from the drive to work this morning..turned on to intermittent after 5 mins of driving,.. nothing for a min then 6 wipes, hickup, 3 wipes, hickup, 22 wipes, nothing for 30 seconds, 16 wipes, hickup, 4 wipes, then 1 wipe every 5 seconds for a minute, this was all in constant light drizzle...it's extremely annoying and draws my attention away from driving!....surely the randomness isn't how a rain sensor should be controlling them?

I think the windscreen may have a sensor in too. The rain sensor is random but is controlled by the amount of rain and heaviness so shouldn't be a distraction in fact should be the opposite and take the rain away without you thinking about it.
Sounds like there may be a fault with the sensor. Try cleaning the area where the sensor is or that sensor internally but that could be for he automatic headlights.

The sensor is behind the rearview mirror.. as you move the adjustment lever / dial on the wiper stalk it increases or decreases the sensitivity of the auto wipers.. when the lever is at 12 o'clock then it's at it's least sensitive Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Mines was doing the same..easy to check..pull the connection to the sensor then try wipers..i ended up fixing mine by pulling the fuse and I reset the lot..

Just looked on YouTube...there's a video (for a sport)...showing it, it is the black oblong I thought it was, I'll pull the covers off and see if there is an obvious issue....
