How long for preheat?

What is the usual amount of time for the preheat light to go out when starting these cold mornings? This is my first diesel and I've never had to go through this ritual before.... QUID FACIUM TIBI

A couple of seconds , the light goes out once the glow plugs have heated enough but to be honest a healthy engine will start without them if it's only a bit cold . 2008 MY Supercharged

I assume that is the stupid celcius (posh name for centigrade) scale and not the infinitely more understandable and preferable Fahrenheit? You may have heard that we are no longer going to be european over here so I think we aught to ditch all of the changes imposed on us and go back to imperial weights and measures and the good old reliable £.S.D. money. In fact I hope that BREXIT will mean that we get our good old proper winters back so that we get 12 inches of snow and 4x4s are the only things moving on the road - well the ones that can handle it...... QUID FACIUM TIBI
