Vaselene will disolve/melt the rubber - It will also bung up the felt strip so will no longer be felt-like. Hence silicone spray as it is safe on rubber of all types |

I dont understand why you wouldnt use car polish followed by wax. Rather than something meant for wood? But whatever floats your boat. You could use washing up liquid and a kitchen sponge to wash the car with too. |
