I did a bit of unexpected wading on the way to work this week. A small river had flooded across the road. The cars were turning around, so I decided to up the suspension and give it a go.

If that was me, I'd have gone slower. Should part of the road have collapsed and caused the nose to dip, I'd have wanted to be at the right speed to create a bow wave rather than too fast and risk getting water in the intake.

That's the thing about water in the UK; it's not often you can see the bottom and it only takes a damaged road surface or missing manhole covers and you are in a world of misery.

I agree having a recently had a session at Eastnor in lot of water and their training as to how to produce a bow wave at low speed.

However, I travel that road daily and there are depth boards by the side of the road (visible in the video) showing it was a low water level. There are no manholes covers and the water had only been there a few hours so minimal likelihood of damaged road surface. If if hadn't been for this local knowledge I would have turned around. MY23 D350 HSE

I'm Land Rover trained. I was trained at Eastnor. I used to work for a Dealership, as their off road specialist. That combined with competition off roading with Pennine LRC and NORC.
As slow as possible, as fast as necessary Unless you know the road....but then you don't know what has changed, or what is below the water..
My job now is a Health and Safety Consultant for the last 18 years.

I lived in Thatcham a few years back. Back in 2007/ 2008 when the floods hit, I was up to the bonnet in floodwater in the Rangey, and that was on hi sus setting. Never had a problem. It's down to reading the road and hazards ahead. I saw many a Range Rover and other 4x4s abandoned because the owners thought they were invincible in their off roaders. Biggest problem I saw was the manhole covers blowing and the rainwater gulleys blowing.. Most idiots just saw this as water.......until the front of the car dropped and f***ed it up. It's easy to spot with the whirlpool or fountain, dependent on the water flow, and the fact they all run in a line!!!!!
The simple mantra is...never assume.. Always assess your route Unless you can't and have a plan B.... Happy to discuss !!!
