Which oil is best?

Land Rover recommend an oil, something like Shell Helix Ultra professional AF-L or Castrol C1 Edge Professional. 5w30.
The ACEA C1 spec is low viscosity. Helps with fuel economy. C spec is needed with the dpf filter being low ash.

However, if you don't care about the fuel economy so much, and are more interested in protecting your engine, is ACEA C4 better? Will ACEA C4 look after your turbos better for example?

Sounds like an interesting question.... If C1 is low visc do I take it C4 has a higher visc?

For the 4.4TDV8 and Opie recommendations are all C1. Surely anything other than the LR recommended grade is a risk?

My hypothesis is the other way round....to achieve a marginally improved fuel consumption owners are taking a risk with their engines....and they could achieve better longevity and reliability for the sake of a few less mpg....
