United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Java Black
New Battery Time

Looking for confirmation of my suspicions if possible 🙄
Over the last few weeks with the colder mornings my car has had a few strange start ups. Only once did it give the well known HDC inactive message.

Some times with no pattern or logic ie not exceptionally cold or sat for a long time, the starter will engage and crank for half a second then silence no messages nothing then crank again and then start up.

My plan is to change the battery is there any thing else worth checking ? Is this a common symptom ? Current: Supercharged 06 FFRR in Java Black

Certainly sounds like a battery issue.

My rule of thumb is 5 years - if it's older than that, you're on borrowed time so make sure you have a booster pack.....

Just had mine replaced the first few heavy frosts killed it, surprising as its only 3 years old.
To be fair tho' I only do short trips.

I have what I think is a very strong battery but occasionally I get both the HDC inactive on starting or I get the bump noise as I turn the key and the Rev counter needle jumps and that's it, off and back on and it starts.
I could have a battery drain but mine only does any miles once every 2 weeks and weekends does a few short trips.
You could check your charging voltage to make sure your alternator is healthy but could well be just a tired battery as already said.
I did consider my starter motor being a bit dodgy but it hasn't done it for a while

Bosch is much cheaper here @ £110 than on eurocarparts

http://www.justcarbatteries.co.uk/bosch-si...s5015.html

I've no affiliation to this company and have never used them, so not a recommendation, I was just considering replacing my current Bosch (same model) and was checking out prices as ECP seemed expensive vs what I paid last time.... (which was about £110) 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

I think that's the battery I bought, I bought it off eBay from Eurocarparts and then picked it up from my local depot as it was a lot cheaper than buying it direct from eurocarparts via their normal website

After my 3 replacement Bosch S5's I'd stay well clear of them. Disappointing doesn't even come close..... Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Is the Varta still performing well miggit ? I made the mistake of buying a "cheapo" a few months back, and I'm now having a few issues so I'm thinking about buying something decent and consigning the cheapo to powering the electric fence. I see the price on the site you pointed out is now £111, but I've found them cheaper on other sites, just want to make sure that the battery is the one to have.

I believe Bosch and Varta are the same battery, just branded differently and are made in the same factory, all under ownership of US company Johnson Controls 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Varta battery fitted today just to be sure...
Old battery measured 12.1 volts having been sat for a few hours. New battery 12.6v out the box.
Identical battery to the Bosch that I removed. Just different stickers. Current: Supercharged 06 FFRR in Java Black

Biffo, it is flawless! can leave the car for 5 days and it will start without any issues Thumbs Up

My original battery was a genuine item, and it's made by Vatra, but has Land Rover printed on it too, Annoyingly there is no date stamp on the battery than I can see so I can tell how old in is...... But suffice it to say it is an original LR item, so it was either the original factory fit.. which would be amazing, or it's a replacement that has been put on the car while it was still being repaired under the money is no object heading, as opposed to now where the car is repaired under quality and reliability, but cost is main consideration......

I suspect that it's the second battery to go on the car and that they are averaging about 6 years in life, which is impressive.. they must be able to go over 5 years otherwise Varta and Bosch would be bust Laughing

As for the price Shocked .. I suspect that we've used up the stock and the super strong pound has kicked in Sad So yes best to hunt around peeps... If you've got a petrol ffrr then they could still be a source for the 019 battery Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
