Changing my 3.0 405 next year and toying with the idea of going SC vs SDV8

I don't tow anything, I'm not worried about fuel consumption. I 'think' the road tax will be same after the first year with the new rules. The only things concern me are residual values, which I assume are worse on the SC, and having less torque.

Anyone else been in the same position? What did you do?

I'm a big fan of the SDV8, but given your parameters, I'd be seriously looking at a 5.0.

I'm not sure how the residuals work out, but they are somewhat more scarce so you'd have to take a look at the prices.

They look to be holding up, but maybe that's cause the 405 is still a relatively 'new' model.

5.0 SC every day - the residuals here on the continent are still every good - just like all FFRRs  All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

Residual will be better on the diesel in the uk - usually works out that way anyway

I'd love to have a 5.0 and convert to lpg unfortunately I don't think the techs there yet for the direct injection system

I love the idea of the SC but the SDV8 makes such a strong case for its self. Imo its more than fast enough would i need more? Its very torquey which will suit the RRFF more? It uses half the fuel nearly. Where i live Diesel costs less. The car costs less to buy. Imo it still a great engine.

I'm also going to change next year and thinking exactly the same 5.0SC or 4.4TDV8 even though my V6 is perfectly adequate I'm still hankering after more oomph.
I do about 14k per annum all on long trips so wondering what fuel cost difference might be, does anyone have real life fuel consumption stats for the SC?

I had an sc on demo a while back, did a couple of longish trips and got around 21mpg wheres driven in a similar semi spirited manner, my sdv8 would do 33mpg. Its not so much the mpg though its the rubbish range of the petrol... if I had one I'd be in the petrol garage near enough every other day which I know would do my fruit after not long! '14.5 SDV8 Nara Bronze for sale

I've had two SDV8, two SC.

The current car has covered 18k miles in the last eight months. If I worked out the true fuel consumption by tank to tank then I might get a bicycle. So I only look at the trip computer. My trips vary in length and driving style.

Best ever 35.4 mpg over 170 miles - dying of boredom
Worst ever 8mpg across the Furka Pass chasing a Ferrari California.

Motorway journeys often show 28 if not exceeding the speed limit. "Making progress" sees 24-26 mpg.

By comparison my best ever SDV8 was 50mpg (see dying of boredom above). Typical 35mpg on motorways and 28mpg in progress mode. When petrol was significantly cheaper than diesel my 'man-math' could justify it.

BUT

SC - less torque masked a bit by over-eager gearbox to kick down and go. Don't notice after a while. Engine gets up to temperature quickly so heater works on a cold morning much much sooner (I do use the FBH too). Best range typically 400 miles.

SDV8 - Noisier, not as silky smooth. So much more NVH. Lots of lag off the line so it feels heavier.

I'm sure that is no help at all.

Everyone needs to experience the SC. Mine was a 2006 MY. Loved the V8 sound and acceleration. Go for it PP  MY23 D350 HSE
On my 7th RR plus various other JLR vehicles

I didn't want to mention the acceleration from any speed or the stability at an indicated 165mph on the autobahn. Might influence the outcome!
