United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Mariana Black

Hi Guys

So update, changed the sensor and still got the same error. The pressure reading will only go up to 9.00 bar. Do you think it is the compressor ? even though I put new piston ring in it ? I mean it's only a motor and a cylinder isn't it so if I changed the piston ring thought would be ok ?

Hi, did you pop the new piston ring into the cylinder bore before you fitted it to the piston?

When you do this you can check for things like the cylinder bore being slightly oval and therefore allowing the compressed air past the ring, and the gap where the piston ring ends meet. They must be within a certain tolerance or they will allow compressed air past the ends as well.

I'd strip it down again and do those checks if only to put my mind at rest and to ascertain whether or not it is the compressor at fault.

As Simon says, if it was left with a worn piston ring then they overheat a lot locally before the temp sensor turns them off, this tends to wear the internals so even a new ring won't help... Thumbs Up Pete

OK Update

Removed compressor, looked at cylinder. Piston ring seems to be nice tight fit. So re-assembled. Whilst in boot saw brass thing attached to compressor part number MAV500010 so googled it and came up with thread from this forum about PRV pressure release valve, saying how to bypass it as a common cause of " pressure static when filling ". So thinking this is it, I have found the cure, EUREKA etc I by-passed it .The started her up and monitored the pressure. Watched in excitement.... went to 9.5 bar again and bong AIR SUSPENSION INACTIVE, cleared fault again , pump on gets to 9.5 cuts out and AIR SUSPENSION INACTIVE again. So decided to open a bottle of wine instead Very Happy

Is there anything else to try or is it time for new compressor ?

TBH I'm not anywhere near 100% sure it is your pump, is there anyone you know with one you could do a swap and see what happens...

I didn't think the compressor would get to 9.5 bar if it was goosed... or maybe it will, anyone else had experience of it...?? Pete

New update

Got secondhand pump from ebay, and does exactly the same thing Sad . Runs for about 30 seconds gets to 9.14 bar then compressor cuts out and air suspension inactive comes up on dash. So replaced pressure sensor and tried new compressor so don't think it is that. Does anyone know what to try next ?

Are you still using the icarsoft or do I remember you saying you were going to get an IID tool...?? Pete

Well I don't know, that's the problem... I'd be tempted to get one of these and a "T" and a length of 8mm pipe and up the pressure in the system and see if the tool reads the increase in pressure, it would rule out errors in the icarsoft and if it does read the increase in pressure it COULD indicate the ECU is at fault and not receiving a signal from the pressure gauge telling it the pressure is increasing, it then switches off the pump as it thinks there is a fault...

If I get time in the morning I'll go and interrogate mine and see what testing the IID can do for the EAS... Thumbs Up Pete

If you get the valve, you "T" it into the 8mm supply from the compressor... Pete
