HDC Inactive message

Hi,

Sometimes when I start my FFRR 2003 petrol vogue, I get a displayed message that HDC is Inactive accompanied by a chime. I hadn't really worried about this as I have never really had much need to use the hill descent control but today whilst going off road I came across a deep section filled with water and wanted to raise the suspension to the off-road setting but although the light was flashing it did not lift the vehicle. I sat in Park for about 5 minutes but the light light kept flashing. When I turned the switch to return to normal the light for that setting came on immediately. I had the front air suspension replaced in January and know what the leaking hiss sounds like - i don't have any leaks at the moment. When I set the switch to access mode the car lowers and it managed to lift itself back to normal height after several minutes. On the drive down yesterday the suspension was changing from normal setting to motorway as normal.

I don't have an IID tool at the moment so cannot check for faults but do you reckon I might need to get a compressor seal repair kit off eBay?

Regards,

Steve

Mine showed this message and was a result of low voltage in the battery; a new Genuine one sorted that out! "YYS" G4 FFRR

They aren't related. As said by stu, the HDC is normally low battery. The slow raising etc is probably the compressor. I would try with a refurb kit from bagpipe andy and hope the compressor bores are not too badly worn.

I find that mine will rise quite quickly from access to normal but takes a little longer from normal to offroad. I put that down to the reservoir being depleted. John

Can you update your profile to indicate what model and year your Range Rover is, it gives us a better idea of how to help you.

I would be looking first at alternator output as although you have a new battery the alternator might not be able to keep up the charge required by the car.
