rounded /stripped torx

Trying to remove my wing mirror and after getting access to the back of the assembly I've noticed someone's rounded off 2 of the torx heads...impossible to get it off now and I would be grateful for any tips on getting them out..thanks

Not knowing what kind of access you have as I haven't done mine yet, I would look at using a dremel or such to cut a slot in and use a large screwdriver.

Sadly I had the same issue and my only option was molegrips however the threads were so heavily corroded they snapped off.

I will try the moleys first and keep my fingers crossed, mines are badly corroded as well....ive not got a dremmel in my toolkit yet so if that fails there's my excuse to purchase one Laughing

Have you soaked it in WD or other penetrating oil first ?

Yeah sprayed wd40 on it a couple of times in the past 24 hours hoping it would help..it didn't Banging Head

It wouldn't, contrary to popular belief WD40 isn't a penetrating fluid and is actually hygroscopic, it actually attracts moisture.

I religiously use duck oil from swarfega, it is a true penetrating fluid and is non conductive nor hygroscopic, give it a try I'm positive you won't go back to WD40. ______________________________

I use an oil from the poundshop it used to be called DP90 not sure of it's name now (got about 20 cans on the shelf) it's amazing stuff I did a little serch on it and the DP90 got great reviews much better than WD40

I did think WD40 = Water Dispersal 40 blend

drill it then use an easy-out screw extractor. they are a set of 5 conical bits with a course reverse thread
you will not be able to reuse the screw though

Thanks guys..shall have a read up and source 1 of them before I attempt to get the torx heads out..there is a tiny bit of grip left in the rounded heads so I'm hoping one of your recommendations gives it some movement...

I've been scooshing torx heads all day with penetrating spray..hoped it would loosen things up..eventually tried to hammer in a hex bit and hoped for the best..never worked..looks like its a drill job at the weekend..only wanted mirrors off to restore bubbled backing plate..was going to get then repowdercoated tomorrow Banging Head

On another note..if anybody's had their doorcards off then tried to refit them..is there a trick getting the bit black trim back on that runs along the bottom of the window? Do you reattach to door then refit or attach to bottom of window and clip card to it? Its beaten me tonight lol..have to reorder more pop clip thingies as well as last jokers damaged the top row of them...im away for a beer Whistle
