After having the 4.2 SC , 3.0 and 3.6 diesels , how reliable are the old 4.4 55 plate petrols as i might have the chance of one to run about in but was just wondering how good or bad these variants are ... ====================================

Assuming you mean the 4.4AJV8 with the ZF 6HP26 then i hear very good indeed and quite rare now.

Mick, assuming you're on about the AJV8 Jag engine try driving one if you can. I had this engine (twice) in Discovery 3's. It's super smooth, sounds nice and it's a real lazy drive.

Agree with this The BMW engine feels more potent, but the AJV8 is just as quick, and more refined which makes it feel slower |

If it's a 55 plate you have the added benefit of cheap (er) road tax too! 2006 4.2 SC

I have one. Love the engine. And surprisingly good economy on a motorway run. |
