Anyone any ideas why some mornings the car heats nicely, but some mornings it just stays asleep. It makes me feel as if I'm doing something wrong. Does it need to have the "AIRCON" button on when shut down the following evening, or the temperature set to full heat....

It's quite simple really. Timed climate works some mornings and not others. And no, I am allowing for the feature to turn off if the car isn't used for two days, like the weekend.

Or is this a proper intermittent electrical fault that will show with plug in JLR diagnostics?

I think i may have something to do with the battery status, i find if im only doing short trips in the week then the battery wont have time to charge, and mine wont work, but if i do a good few trips, then no problems, it may just be circumstantial Dave

I do many decent runs during the week and weekend, so I'm not sure about the battery unless its on its last legs. The battery and car is 5 years old now??

Not sure you need heating turned up in a 2003 model.
Need battery power. Temp less than 15. More than 7.5 litres of fuel.
Then all should be good. Engine coolant of course needs to be below a certain temp too.

Been and had it checked out.
This is a recognised fault (bulletin) and develops as the battery ages. The timed climate is coming on but it's not staying on for as long as it should.

According to JLR, they've solved the issue with a new AGM battery, a new power lead and a software update to cope with the new battery management.

A half job would just replace the 5 year old battery with a new one, as this would probably do the job for a few years, but I think I'll opt for the new AGM battery, power lead and software update. May as well do it properly for next owner!
