Radiator Drain plug removal 3.0 litre Diesel

I need to drain the radiator and I can see the drain plug from underneath but can't reach my hand in there to access it, whats the trick?

From memory......
Car in high / off road mode....
Loose the front tray / sump guard....
Lay down, and try not to go to sleep, and you should be able to find it Thumbs Up

Also I think there is a hose tail so that you pipe the coolant away to a container Very Happy Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Thanks for the reply, he I know where it's located, I have removed the bottom tray and looked up, but how to you get to it, there doesn't seem to be much room to get your arm and and in. Do you have to dismantle other things to get to it? id there an easy way?
That fat hose I assume had to be removed to get to it.?

I managed to get at it without removing that hose, I think i went in from the middle of the car and reached over that pipe. However if it makes it easier for you that hose can be removed as it's the intercooler pipe and only carries air Smile Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

must able to reach it, BUT....be prepared that it will brake off! Twisted Evil Had this on two occasions (one on teh FF and one on a Z3 which is the same). It seems the plastic can't withstand the heat for longer periods. It's best to get this drain plug first before removing it. It will only cost you a few euro (dollar, pound) if not at hand it will take your FF of the road till you get one...
Good luck Thumbs Up

Yes I know the plugs aren't expensive, and have a replacement on hand. Looks like the inter cooler hose needs to come off then.

Rave doesn't actually describe anything.
Thanks,

I have the drain plug cap (red) broken also, so I would need to get the rest of the plug extracted from the sleeve. I wonder if that sleeve is threated to rad or fixed? It would be easy to screw that sleeve off and then work on the plug when in vice.
