Petrol in a diesel - Eejit!!

So, late for a meeting this morning and needed a splash and dash.... yes for the first time in 35 years of driving I misfuelled. On the motorway and a weird shuddering, gearbox was my initial thought as after 130K miles I am waiting for it and wake up in sweats about the bloody thing, anyway, I slowly realised that I had put £20 of petrol in . SO long story short, I brimmed it with diesel and have done about 100 miles since with apparently no issues. am I OK or should I just hand myself in now!! It had about 5 gallons in it when I did the deed, cheers Very Happy

I've used a similar mix, on a diesel van, and it drove fine. The only real problem I was told, is that the solvent action of the petrol, can mean that the pump possibly could be damaged, as the oiling of the diesel fuel is self lubricating.

Put it down to a senior moment. And spend the cash you saved, from not having it drained. I think it's about £200.

I'm far from an expert, but I'd run it - but keep topping up the tank with diesel to further dilute

The Td6 is more tolerant of a splash of petrol than the V6/8's, but keep it topped up with diesel just to help dilute it as much a spare possible

If nothing else, it works as an injector cleaner, and stops the diesel from waxing Whistle

I would also put a bottle of 2so into a full tank of diesel.
Use cheapest mineral 2so from Morrisons at £2. For a bottle
If you are not sure about using 2so just google " 2so in diesel"
There is enough info to keep reading for a month.
I always put 2so in by proportion each time I top up

Cheers

Sounds like you may have got away with it.
Unsure the age of yours?. However, The newer models suffer more & require full drain & replacement of parts depending if the engine has been run & distance traveled etc (warranty issues).
