Here we go again...

Can any one explain to me how we keep the air above Britain completely uncontaminated by the pollution from all the other Countries in the world ? When the Icelandic volcano erupted and spewed ash and gases in to the atmosphere several years ago, some of it landed on Britain. When Chernobyl exploded , radioactivity landed on the mountains of Britain. We get sand from the Sahara landing on our cars, bought over in the rain.... yet here we have the usual tree huggers ignoring this and whining on, claiming that we and only we can be masters of the air above our heads.

How can we be the masters... why more tax of course.

I've been assured by one of my Gruniad-reading friends that all we need to do is shout "RAAAYCIST" loud and often and that alone is enough to scare off pollution, all the world's ills (and all rational discourse). 2006MY 4.2 SC

Here is the framework.

https://consult.defra.gov.uk/airquality/im...tation.pdf

If anyone is interested.

Doesn't seem to mention cars as such mostly applies To commercials, which is a real PitA as derby is on the approved list and the compliant level is euro 6 for commercials.

So by that rational my disco, hiluxes and master van will all be chargeable. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Assuming I have the right doc, yes it applies to all commercials, incl small vans and large vans.

It's in the annexe at the end. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

This really annoys me, all Censored

As a business, we operate in London and around, outside of London isn't a problem but inside all they want to do is tax you. A few years ago, one of the vehicles I bought for business use was a W reg Mercedes Sprinter, great van, cheap to run etc. apart from the fact if I wanted to enter the Low Emissions zone in London it was £100 PER DAY!!

So to combat that we bought a new van in 2010, but we do still have a few older vans in the fleet. Been hearing on the radio more recently that by 2020 the government want to introduce an Ultra Low Emission zone that has stricter requirements, and there will be an additional charge on the congestion zone that we already pay.

Not all small businesses can afford to have all the latest vehicles, and with the motoring costs already it's going to make London work for us almost impossible Neutral

A big delivery company up this way ditched all their diesel vans, and replaced them with petrol/LPG engines, as they were substantially cheaper to run long term Thumbs Up

Lpg's are not free any longer. And only some were.
Looks like older than 2005 cars, which currently have cheaper road tax, are gonna pay extra, but, if you rarely travel in, it's still worth hanging onto it, as the road tax against the newer cars, is worth considering. -about £200 a year difference I think.
I drive in the city everyday, in a work vehicle. It's such a nose to tail jam, it really doesn't matter what you drive.
There is a lot less visible exhaust smoke than say 25 years ago, but, in my London opinion, if they wanted to stop cars coming in, it has to made ridiculously expensive, and that causes businesses to suffer just by location.
I see huge lorries delivering fresh lettuces to sandwich bars, then another pulling up, with milk! more lorries with made up cakes, then, loads of different refuse trucks, that only pick certain rubbish, One collects say bottles from bars, and another for cardboard, and another for street litter bins. And the streets are so narrow, and choked, it's hilarious. Then, just as you go to move off, a taxi stops in front, and picks up a fare!
I've given up getting angry, I really do just laugh!

My disco won't comply as it is a VAN, an equivalent non commercial disco would be fine but as mine is registered as a commercial it falls foul.

Not too much of a PITA as by the time the zones come in it will be time to get something different. All those folks who have pickups as cars/work vehicles will have to rethink the strategy too, as unless they are post 2016 they will be charged too.

Daft really as i will be able to drive the FF in the city centre but not the disco. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Whistle Should have got a Defender rather than a Disco... they can't make their minds up on how to class it, as it can be changed with a set of spanners from pick up to van to convertible, and so on.... I think that is why they are in a class of their own Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
