Just thought I would warn people about the awful experience I have had with Nene. I had a 2006 TDV8 which they were selling on brokerage for me. I took the car in and they put it up on the ramp etc to fully inspect it and said it needed 1k of work (retail prices) to get it in the right condition which I agreed to. A few months later the car is no longer on display and so I pop in and they tell me its actually sold and in the bodyshop having the arches re-done. I did not agree to this work but yet they went ahead and deducted £3750 including their commission for the work. When I questioned it they said it needed £2500 of work which I objected to and we came to an agreement at £3600. At this point the car was already sold. I still haven't been provided with any receipts.

The worst part is that the car was sold 2 weeks ago and I still haven't seen my money. I called the owner and he keeps promising to do it but still no sign of the cash. I may report the car as stolen if the cash doesn't turn up soon.

I would steer well clear of this outfit and having just read reviews online (formerly Berkshire Land Rover) I would never trust this place with your car.

I wouldn't have agreed to anything retrospectively.

I think Trading Standards are your escalation route - reporting it stolen when you know where it is, may get you into more trouble.

Do you have any contractual paperwork or written agreements or conditions of sale with the company?

Nene Overland don't have the best reputation. Check the paperwork you have and ask them to provide evidence of you agreeing to the extra work. If they can't provide it they have no right to charge you for it. Simple.

Personally I wouldn't deal with them. Having the ability to put together an overlanding Defender (who doesn't to be honest) does not equate to them being nice to deal with or have the basic levels of scruples. Think Saxtons, and Nene are right up there with them in the criminality stakes, all IMHO you understand.

Unfortunately no paperwork as I expected them to get in touch before carrying out any work. I'll wait till they pay me and then chase them for VAT invoices. I saw an old article about V5 fraud which concerned me a a little so being paid is a priority.

I think you'll find it was the owners of BLR that were convicted of fraud. Nene Overland have taken over their base in Maidenhead but as far as I'm aware there is no connection between the businesses, apart from anything else Nene have been around a lot longer than BLR ever were. Current - RRV Autobiography 4.4V8 2005

You certainly hear positive stuff about Nene in the magazines. Very interesting to hear there's another side.

Work done without your permission does not sound good. And, if you're in business with them to sell the car, wouldn't trade prices be more appropriate than retail?
