Hi all,
i will have to fit a new battery to my car this week and it looks a real pain to get out due to the limited space and i was wondering if i disconnected the gas springs[bonnet stays] would the bonnet lift back far enough to get a straight lift on the battery? also are there any other things i should be aware of as i have heard a few horror stories of keys getting locked in cars, mileage counters reading all the nines and media centers refusing to work etc, i intend fitting a FIVE STAR 019 battery as this is the one recommended unless you guys can come up with a better solution!!

putting the bonnet in service mode will make fitting the battery much easier, still a fiddly job and maybe a stool/platform to stand on will help....dont do it on a very windy day though... ... - .- -.

Yes, negative terminal first and last, don't trust anything you see on the net.

In that video, with the negative terminal still connected, if his spanner touched the bodywork metal anywhere (easily done in that confined space) then it would be a direct short. With the negative disconnected no such issue.

If you follow the WIKI on here first do the battery disconnect then the removal one and you will have no issues

My battery is OK at present but at 4 years old and no sign of much preventative maintenance, just servicing, I am getting ready for potential battery issues this winter. The battery is charging on my CTEK but takes a long time to charge, much longer than on my D4 and it's the same battery.

My question is about removal and replacement. I have studied the Wiki and that was a great help. However, on my car there is a piece of kit (looks like some sort of cooling radiator) bolted onto the back of the plastic bulkhead in front of the battery and this would, I think, stop the battery being lifted out.

So question is, what is it and does it have to come out to replace the battery.

It's dark now so if required a picture will appear tommorow.

I have partly answered my own question. To remove the baterry in this car you have to remove the wiper arms and the windscreen valance to create enough space to lift the battery out and lift the new one in.

As for indenifing the part in front of the battery no luck yet.

I replaced my battery sort of unexpectedly. I went to my battery supplier expecting to buy a battery and take it away to fit at my convenience. It turned out to be a warranty replacement on condition I handed over the old battery, without assistance. So I bit the bullet and did it based on memory of what I've read here and elsewhere.

The bonnet up system is a great design. Quite straightforward. I also disconnected the negative terminal first.

I didn't have to remove anything like the wipers to replace the battery. ______________________________

I too thought it would be very straight forward after studying the procedure in the Wiki, but on examining my car it is not simple. As you say the bonnet design is great and I can do that easily, but the hole, through which the battery has to pass is much smaller than the battery unless something is taken out. From what I can see removing the wipers and valance is the soft option, but interested to hear from the more experienced if this is the case. I don't know what changed from the car in the Wiki to the MY12 that I have but there is more kit in that area than shown on the demo.
