Shocked Mine looks like the lower photos..... but I will say that when I did the injectors of my TD6, one of the first things that you have to do is remove the heating air / pollen filter box.... 2 x 13mm nuts just under the rubber strip that goes across the back of the engine bay about 8" from the windscreen. Remove the rubber strip and the 2 nuts, and then grab hold of the centre of the bulkhead (black plastic air box) and withdraw it towards the front and up at the same time ( can be a pig getting it passed the ABS pump (TD6))

Suddenly a very large hole appears in the middle of the car and the battery is accessible from the side, so you should be able to slide it in to the middle of the car and then remove forwards Thumbs Up

FYI you can see one of the nuts in the bottom left of rar110 picture Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Well Miggit's suggestion won't work as Removing the pollen box still won't allow you to remove the battery.

So I went and asked a LR tech. The silver "thing" in front of the battery is one of the many ECUs . The bracket visible in my photos has to be removed and the battery lifted out. But in his words " it isn't easy." So now we know.
