I thought that the only RHD cars with Km's on the clock came from the fast east.. Japan, Australia etc.

Anyway would it not be possible to send it off to one of those companies that do the dash upgrades and get MPH dials inserted again? I see that the odometer already says miles....

The UK had a vote on it back in the 1970's and we were all still in favour of MPH.

One of the main concerns we come across is that if the UK were to embrace metric the authorities would use that as an excuse for wholesale speed limit lowering. We're already seeing 20mph zones which are painful. They won't be happy until we're all reduced to walking pace.

£4½k for a 2003 V8 with no MOT, a knackered engine, limp mode, faulty parking sensors, broken steering adjustment... Bargain!!! I'm out

Don't be fooled by his jammed tensioner diagnosis.
Even if it is jammed, -it's almost certain the chain guides have broken, and it's popped out...It will need new chain and guides, and a good few gaskets...It's quite a big job, and around £500 for the bits, and chain toolkit needed.
It's worth a daring offer though. Under the flashy exterior, it's an old rangy, with a knackered engine, and an import, which some insurers won't offer typical cheap deals on.
But, in its favour, is, it 'mileage' is not supersonic.

The best way to prove the fault, is to hear it, (not the best way to deal with a loose chain..) and if still in doubt, drain oil, and remove the lower sump. Any pieces of brown nylon plastic, means it's chain guides have broken up. 1/2 and hour, and you will be able to show the owner, that it's 'a ruined engine, and they are £2k plus fitting... what's going to buy it mate?'
And then bid against that.
However, it's not ruined, unless the chain goes really loose and jumps a tooth. I.e. Don't drive it!
I've done this job, and although it's a long job, it's a worthwhile repair.
It's exactly how I bought my Rangie.

Don't leave your FFRR on the drive or in the garage, use it at least every other day  .

If the chain tensioner has fubar'd will that throw the car in to limp mode? I would have thought that a slipped timing chain would have caused that.... So keeping that in mind, I'd reckon it's not worth much more than £3k, you can get a good working one for £4.5k  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
