AGM battery life

I've had the AGM in my MY2011 since new. Not had any battery problems to date.
But do AGMs eventually die like lead acid batteries, or do they go on and on and on......[/b]

No, a lot of the later diesel L322's had them from the factory.

Sorry to be a thicko, but what benefit does an AGM battery give over "normal" ? When you say "not had any battery problems to date", do you still get "HDC Inactive" if you leave the car for a few days ?

AGM is more aimed at leisure batteries. Instead of wet acid and lead plates it is made up of fibreglass mat which absorbs a gel version of the acid.

The advantages are that they can take a much deeper discharge and still come back to 100% from it. Also they can do this many more times than wet batteries before they fail. This is the main reason LR fitted them to the later L322s, to provide power for the fuel burning heater and still have enough to start the car.

As long as the CCA and AH values are similar the AGM is a much better technology. It tends to hold a higher voltage under cranking as well which is usually the cause of HDC errors etc on startup.
