First winter tyre debate of the season

Conti Summer & Winter for me

But I wouldn't recommend Conti 20's - as above, the wear the shoulders badly, but seem to behave well in 22's.

If I still had an L322 it would certainly be on Pirelli Verde 255/55/20's - when I had one I ran Michelin Diamaris in the summer & Vreds in the winter.

Is it snowing already on your island ?  All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

The Scorpions are the good all round M+S tyres, while the Verde's were the "green" (Verde - "green", geddit?), low rolling resistance tyres, with compromised grip. Later on they did the M+S version of of the "Green" tyre, which is what you can buy now.

I've no idea why they want to produce two, very similar, M+S specced tyres

I put Vredstein Wintrack Extremes on last February, and now approaching two years use and 23,000 miles they still have 6mm depth.
The shoulders wore faster than the centres so I swapped front to rear at 16k.
Fuel economy didn't change and handling seems no different, even during spirited sessions.
I'd throughly recommend these.

Lots of people on here have made the switch - the 55 size seems to be quite a bit cheaper and apparently rides better too.

[I wasn't aware of these prior to the L405 launch and didn't need to replace my L322 tyres before buying my L405 so I didn't ever have a set]

On a calculator, it shows the speed as 3% different - so 62 vs 60 - which I think would still be within the tolerance of the speed as most read under anyway.

As for the insurance, my advice would be to contact them and ask them. I doubt it will make a difference, but if you're concerned, then better to have it declared than not. Hard to imagine it would be an issue, they are no wider and appropriately load & speed rated - but I guess you never know.....

Thanks to our friend Stan giving me a heads up about an eBay advert, on a rare midweek day off, I've today had a wee drive out and collected 4 brand spanking, unused 'take off' Verde tyres... for £250!

What about the General AT in 255/55x20, good tyres.

Pirelli Verde are a sound tyres as well.

The NEW General AT3 will be available in due course.  Andy....
