Engine oil cooler issues . | |
Less than a week until its MOT, and having just serviced it with nice new oil, plugs and filters, came back to find the driveway pooled with oil. ( nothing out the norm with a land rover ).
I figured it would be that I hadn't quite tightened the oil filter right, but on inspection found that the oil was coming off of the cooler pipes running between the cooler and the pump.
I stripped the pipe off and cleaned it up and found the connector part of the hose full of grit / grime. Looked at the tube on the cooler and it had corroded quite badly. So much so that its corroded a hole in the pipe just before it meets the hose connector area.
Anyone else seen similar? Its as though grit, dust and grim has fallen into the spaces of the connector from general use, then with the salt etc etc has bored its way through. I don't think any of the grit has got into the oil as what what drained was clean, and the pressure of the oil at the pipe would have pushed muck out, rather than suck it in.
Sigh! V8 or else ...
