Hi all, I'm still suffering with the 'ang' 'over..... This time it's stripped the splines in the front prop coupling, and it's being a real pita........

Are we talking about the nut for the splined drive tube on the ‘old-style’ front propshaft/final drive?

Before Service Action Q041 was rolled out in 2008 Land Rover realised that it was unrealistic (i.e. way too expensive) to replace every single L322 front final drive and propshaft with a new one and so they produced a number of special jigs/fixtures and tools so that the technicians in the dealerships would be able to upgrade the front final drive to the new design. You can see below what a palaver it was, especially relating to getting the pinion bearing preload correct.

Arrr... I read it as the transfer box but reading it again and you're probably right with the diff...

Just had another look at Phils diagram from hell, and I notice that it says once the pinion nut is undone the diff has to be stripped and a new crush washer / tube fitted......... Why do they say that you can remover the coupling and replace the oil seal without the strip down....... this is also flawed cos they say to reference mark the drive coupling and the nut...... but not the coupling and the pinion shaft..... which is a spline, not a key way, so can go back in any position, and rather makes a mockery of the hole job Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Right, after a major case of Roverphobia, having read the Q041 instructions and tried to get a bit of help from local Land Rover dealers and Land Rover Customer service, whom are denying all knowledge of a service recall.... I spoke to the peeps who sold me the coupling..... They have replaced over 100, all f/t with a gun, and no failures to report..... So I'm assuming that the diff explosions reported on the web are more likely down to lack of oil rather than drive coupling issues.
