Anyone got a gun?

It's like the Forth bridge, I fix one fault and more appear so I'm thinking automotive euthanasia is the only solution.

Maybe not but I bet there's a few out there that feel the same way. Anyway this morning while bleeding the cooling system I got a few bongs on the dash, HDC, AIR SUS, TRANS FAIL SAFE etc and the car hadn't even moved.

So I did an IIDtool scan and came up with the following.

ABS-Brake Module

0x15 ABS ECU fault
EAS-Suspension

0x32 CAN bus Fault
ECM-Engine (ME7.2)

0x48C Electric thermostat circuit fault
0x4DD CAN bus missing node - ABS ECU
IP-Instrument Pack

0xF5 CAN bus fault - No ASC1 received from ABS ECU
0x8D Transmission Interface Bus fault
0xEE No ASC4 received from ABS ECU
0xBD EBV function fault received from ABS ECU
LCM-Light Control v11

0x57 Air suspension active/inactive
0x59 Transmission emergency program fault
SASM-Steering Angle

0x9 Incorrect CAN message
TBOX-Transfer Case

0x52E7 ASC1 lost from CAN (0x52E7)
0x52EC ASC2 lost from CAN (0x52EC)
TCM-Transmission

0x82 CAN bus ABS timeout: General fault

Ignoring the electrical thermostat fault I believe all of the faults relate to the ABS ECU anyone agree??

I've put a fresh battery on today and the alternator is putting out 14v - 14.2v

Please let me know your thoughts before I get grand Pappys shootin iron and shoot me a Range Rover Razz

Simon,

You may have nudged/dislodged the ABS unit or got some moisture in the connector(it is upside down and so holds water!!). I found a tiny spec of green corrosion on one of the metal tongues in the connector which was enough for all the faults to appear. A simple clean with a toothbrush was sufficient to put everything back to normal.

Mine went cranky when I jacked up the front as the height sensors can drag crap into them either that or your battery is going flat
If I don't lock mine when I'm working on it the battery drains which can give you dozens of faults
Would be worth checking the thermostat heater electrical connection as that can corrode
Clear all faults using diagnostics and see what returns or steering lock to lock reset may help.
Bit more complicated than your Klepper...

Hi,

I've just removed the thermostat for the 80 degree thermostat hack, so luckily I've just looked into the thermostat connector and it looks ok. You have to disconnect it that's why I'm getting the fault, other than that I'm thinking alternator because at best I'm getting 13.7 - 14.0v.

Alternator should be around 14.8 v I believe, can you clear the faults with your diagnostics ?
I am about to do the 80 deg mod so don't know what effect it would have but I have read it doesn't cause any issues.
Normally multiple electrical faults are battery related and if you are sitting on idle bleeding the system then low battery or alternator would be a potential cause.
The ABS modules do fail causing multiple problems but if it will clear the faults and drive ok I would try using it keeping in mind your abs may not work. Mine would try and apply the HDC brakes until it faulted out and I just kept clearing and driving and it healed itself eventually
Have a gen up on X5 ABS module as there is a lot of information on them online

I have the same issue on mine at the moment.

However, every time I try to check or clear the faults I get the HDC warning on the dash and the IID tool freezes up too so I need to go back to the start and try again. Big Cry

Had a new ABS module in earlier this year so hoping that's not on the blink again!

Hi Deranged,

You didn't hijack don't worry but you may have saved me an alternator.

Did the new ABS module sort out the problems because it's odd, every time I look to see if there are any faults with the IIDtool it throws up ABS, HDC and TRANS FAIL SAFE faults on the dash that weren't there before I started scanning and I can't clear them no matter what. It's odd..

But if an ABS module will sort it then that's what I'll go for because I'm not driving the Range Rover at the moment but am working on it and in and out of most of the day so the 13.7v I'm getting might just be the battery trying to get back up to spec..
