Insurance modifications

What modifications do people on here have on their FFRR they insure with A-Plan?

I called up yesterday to my local branch, which happens to be Thatcham, unfortunately Clare wasn't available so spoke to another lady mentioning this forum.

But due to being 23 they don't have any schemes I could be placed on, and couldn't quote me unless I had modifications I could try the modified RR scheme (i.e. showing i'm an enthusiast)

I know its not A plans fault most underwriters hate young lads with Range Rovers, I insure my 4.6 v8 p38 with Adrian Flux for a great price, but with the TD6 it almost triples!

Rant over... just wondering what modifications you guys have if any?

In terms of listed mods that I have declared;

- towbar
- 21" wheels (Genuine Land Rover)

Neither of these increased my premium of my TDV8. I was 37 when I first insured it (now 40) but still no increase. Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Tinted windows? As Nick says towbar? Change of wheel style?

Yep - Tints, Wheels & Towbar for me too - I also declare winter tyres - but I'm not with A Plan Embarassed

If you go on to any of the comparison websites - or online quote sites, there is usually a list of mods to declare, spa you can take your pick Very Happy

Even though the towbar was a factory fit, I declare it anyway as it doesn't cost me anything - in fact I don't think any of the mods have cost me extra.

Engine remap was on my last L322 when I had that - that one did bump the premium a bit - and also meant that some companies would refuse to cover me.

A prior one had an Overfinch kit on it that went down as a bodykit - I guess you could just change the side vents & tick the bodykit box....

Brakes

I am thinking of upgrading my front brakes on my o4, going to brembo or overfinch. Would this affect 9nsurance costs. I am a pretty old codger now, 55 ish but i would like a bit better brakes for todays traffic levels. For reference its an autobiography, pretty standard trim afart from chrome side vents.

You shouldn't need to declare anything as a modification if it was "standard" for your model of car. So, if parking sensors are standard then you don't declare them. Insurance companies will have assessed the "risk" element of the car as it came when it was new.

Anything that has been changed since it was new should be declared and, in most cases, if it is sensible LR OEM stuff (we're FF owners so of course it is Shocked ) like wheels or tow bars then it should hardly make a difference on your premium. If it does then it's worth arguing about, or changing insurer. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Baltic Blue

I'm with APLan and rang them yesterday after reading this thread.Reported my after factory towbar and they simply made a 'note on file' and confirmed this would not have made any difference to the premium.

I could imagine though that if a shunt up the rear was made worse by the fact that an unreported towbar had been fitted could possibly mean voiding or drastically reducing the cover.

Nice people at our local APLan as well!! 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus
