I have the BMW 4.4 LPG with Prinz system.
Question is basically a simple one.
Is all LPG the same ? Gas is gas and set ignition level / pressure.
I ask due to fuel varies according to additives from various suppliers i.e. Shell, Esso, BP are top range go juice but could never use ASDA, Tesco or happy shopper type stuff without juddering, kangaroo, smokey, effects.

thanks in anticipation,

More or less, there are no additives in LPG AFAIK (apart from the 'perfume' that gives it its smell), whereas petrol has many additives, and the 'premium' brands have much better additive packages than the supermarket / cheapo brands.

A friend of mine worked at BP, and said supermarket / cheap fuel is fine in rental / company cars, but NEVER use it in your own.

Regarding LPG, we have just taken the tin tent on a 1500 mile jaunt around Scotland, and I got LPG from all sorts of places (at all sorts of prices - robbing jock ba Censored rds!!), and never noticed any difference in Engine performance etc. (unlike running on cheap petrol, when you certainly do notice the difference.

Hop this helps Thumbs Up Thumbs Up 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

No offence meant Embarassed - just find it hard to understand how LPG here in rural Wales is 70p/Litre, yet in Scotland I was paying 90p for the same thing. Big Cry 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

None taken, hope you enjoyed your visit. BP station next to Clydeside expressway 68.9p, but agree elsewhere can be pricey

Thanks for prompt replies, brilliant info as usual on this forum.
Living in Silverstone area the garages are sparse for LPG but i use the shell 69p rather than the BP 75p 2 miles up the road A5.
Tried an Esso unit in Milton Keynes but couldn't figure out the connector operation, 15 minutes later i just hid my head in shame and drove off - forecourt staff no help, then heard a rattle just pulling out - oh there goes my filler cap then !!! haha

For the record, my 02 BMW engined v8, with a prinz system that was pro fitted at 60k, by previous owner...is now on 165k, and running perfect. -I don't get any error codes, relative to engine running etc. I regularly use shell LPG as its nearest. But I use any station brand, when convenient.
From what I understand about LPG, it's a by-product of the oil refining process, and is normally burned off. Like on the top of oil rigs....it's also known as good old propane gas. (Same stuff!) Ie 'red bottled' gas, which is different to blue bottled gas, for barbecues. (Butane)....also, the garage, I'veused......BP and Shell, are supplied, by Calor.
So, it's likely, that it's all the same stuff.

Still running as normal without any problems. Thumbs Up Apart from a price rise in LPG at one of the local garages, now up to 59p a litre. Mad

Had Prinz in a 2002 BMW engined 4.4 and now BRG in my 07 jag engined 4.4. both did great, 82K miles in the 2002 and now 83K in my 07. The latest with valve lube. The system is Serviced every year or 10K miles. Love it and it goes well with my concious, driving a clean V8. When it is very hot (as at the moment and on high altitude I do switch to petrol. A habbit I took in when I drove LPG in the 80ies in Holland, when I did 100K a year. Then they told us that driving petrol when it's hot would grease the valves. Obviously with the valve lube it doesn't seem logical to do it nowadays, but I have the illusion that my car sound smoother in the mountains on petrol. Both cars were converted to LPG after approx 6000 mls from new. Had 1 RR sport and 4 FF now and the LPG cars did not cost me more or gave me more issues.
