Rear motor headache!!!

Hi guys - whilst in the modding spirit I ordered a new gear for the rear motor as it wasn't moving (the blade) and never had since I got the ff. Now I took it apart and it was just full of junk so cleaned and regreased now works good as new...

However...

It's really annoying me - every time I start the car regardless of the stalk position it does a few wipes and never tucks itself back up it stops at random places.

When I use it and turn it off it stops in random places too :/

Help!

Your park switch internally of the wiper mechanism is not working correctly.
Need to take it to bits and check it again.

Dare I ask what th park switch looks like? I spent some time trying to work out the correct blade position as I didn't mark it - also should it tuck under the left or right? It catches my camera on the way past not sure if that makes a difference

I haven't stripped down the rear wiper to the internals so I couldn't tell you what the park switch looks like exactly but it'll be a small changeover micro switch which operates when the wiper reaches the park position and turns it off. It could be a physical switch or it might be a sensor, either way it'll have wires going to it, for a switch it'll be 3 wires.
The way it works is when then wiper is commanded on a timer starts in the wiper relay which will operate the wiper for a set period, either a quick flick or longer period if washing plus a delay between wipes. It should stop when the timer has ended and it next operates the park position switch. It sounds like yours isn't turning off in the park position and is just working on the timing circuit.
It could possibly be an issue with the connection plug at the motor or a problem with the rear wiper relay as the switching goes back to the relay, it might be worth checking those first but given it sounds like you've had the wiper apart it's likely to be an internal switch issue (Sod's law! We've all been there Sad ).

The wiper parks up under the passenger side (RHD) it shouldn't get anywhere near the drivers side.... Pete

Sorry, mine had a brand new one on it when I bought it so that's one thing I haven't had to pieces, as Weejock says it is usually a microswitch or sometimes a brass track on the back of the large toothed wheel inside that runs over little tangs within the body of the unit, it is imperative that if you took parts out, especially toothed wheels that they went back in exactly the same place, one tooth out and it won't work properly...

Basically take it apart until you find electrical contacts of one type or another... if they are fixable, dirty etc then sort it, I have a suspicion that you have put it back together wrong in which case it's trial and error or buy a new one... Sorry... Pete

I recall my brother in law had a similar issue. When we stripped the black box where the wiper shaft gives into, there was a spring type mechanism which had dislodged.
I really can't remember any more about it but it was really obvious once it was dismantled. Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey
