I assume at 10 years old, it probably owes you nothing, so the question is sell now whilst it's worth something, or take the risk of a catastrophic issue that renders it worthless ?

As you've had it long enough to look after it well - and given that you aren't looking for an excuse for an L405 - I'd just keep running it.

My only big repair in the last 25,000km was the transmission. The output spline had not been lubricated. Mine is a nov/dec 07 vintage. If you keep it I would get that checked at your next service. ______________________________

Robert, my plan with the current L322 was and still is (if NZ Customs cooperates) to keep it till it turns into a classic car and that is how I intend to maintain it. So next on the list is doing all diffs/transfer case/gearbox/coolant/brake fluid before it goes into the container to the Land of the Long White Cloud.

Once you have a good one, I think it is worth hanging onto also because mine has all I ever wanted in this particulate FF (until full autonomous driving in an EV is possible).

I expect this FF to do a few hundred thousand km's easily if maintained well. I think the running gear and engine will not even break a sweat to reach 500k km.s with proper use (warming up gently etc.) and maintenance. The problem is plastic bits aging (like with my old Merc, it is the brittle plastic that is causing the issues not the running gear !).

So have a good think, I mean you with your classic cars should be in an even better position to determine what to do to a car to keep it running for a LONG time . MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Those cars are all in great condition but don't do more than 1000 miles a year and don't loose any value. You have just convinced me what to do.

Once mine is all sorted it's going to be a keeper for sure, I can't think what else I would want instead of a L322. I've also had lots of high mileage cars, as long as you keep on top of it then they are not really any more trouble than lower mileage ones. My one has 113k on it with FSH and had a heap of problems I'm currently working through but that was down to lack of maintenace from the last couple of previous owners. I think once a car hits 100k, that's when stuff starts to wear out and shows signs of age, then it needs a bit on money spending on it to see it through another 100k. The PO of mine just ignored any issues, kept driving it then sold it on as a trouble car. My ex has a 2004 Freelander 1 Td4 with 165k on it, it's the only Land Rover I know that doesn't leak oil and it's still going strong in the face off all the people that said don't buy one, she's had no major problems with it. Biggest job was a rear diff when we first got it as it was noisy and that was probably to do with low oil from previous owner as the diff gasket was weaping. The only thing I would say is what we all know now about auto gearboxes, they don't seem to last the life of the car, most seem to struggle to get past 150k. I do wonder though if they all got serviced from new every 30k or so would this be a different story? I think it would, we might see them last as long as some engines. 2004 RR 4.4 V8 Autobiography

Bit late with a response I know but I am keeping mine until it dies. Its been no problem over last 2 years and 20k miles, I always look after it. My uncle sold his last year and bought a Tesla. Amazing car but I asked what he would do if his hunting bug comes back as my aunt's estate won't cut it and the Tesla with 2 boots definitely wont work.

I will keep mine as the size and ease of getting things in the boot is a winner for me, it can go anywhere doesn't limit me to buying small items to take home and has been no trouble so far. We have a mini for round town short trips and I have my old SL500 for fun and getting me to the station 14 miles away, when I have to go into town for meetings. I've got LPG on the RR & the Merc so they are both economical, but the RR is a true workhorse. You've got the fun cars, keep the workhorse, you never know when you might need it, especially as you seem to have a good un.

Similar dilemma I bout mine on 67k miles 2and a half years ago now done 135k recent 2500 miles round south of France behaved impeccably
I have replaced all bushes shocks and bags but that is me doing a bit of overkill and it drives superb
probably another year then change

I am similar situation so let me give my 2 cents , albeit a bit late...
Mileage should definitely not be an issue. Official dealer I trusted said that a well looked after engine can do 500.000 km.
It is also difficult to find a car that can beat a Rangie and, for some, the 405 seems too different to the old style to appeal.
So I am considering moving from the 2007 3.6 tdi to a 2011ish 4.4 tdi model. I like the idea of the ZF 8 speed. I think the 6 gear is a bit slow in changing gears and does not fully use the torque while on motorways. Plus another driving factor for the upgrade I am considering is the leather interiors. After 9 years my needs a new interior since I do not like the look of old scuffed leather. And this is a big job because the ivory interior has aged and the vinyl on the dash and doors is not pristine as it used to be.... to do seats, dash and doors is quite a job. But that's because i like it perfect as new. These are the 2 main reasons I am considering upgrading... for the rest, the 2007 is just ticking away perfectly fine and with engine remap she drives uber swift! This summer we did over 1.000 km in one day with temperatures of over 40° in Greece including high speed motorways and mountain roads fully loaded, no issues, driver not tired. Of course it costs quite a lot in maintenance, but this is normal with such expensive car.
