Gearbox flush

I have booked mine to have it done on Friday, nothing wrong with the box but it seems that prevention is better than cure 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE

I see you are in Leeds too. Thinking of having mine done. If you don't mind me asking where is it getting done and how much are they quoting? Thanks

I'm actually getting it done at a garage that I know the owner - Automatic Transmissions in Huddersfield - I'm sure there are not unscrupulous garages out there Shocked Shocked but I'd rather know the work has been done rather than someone telling me it has been done.

He will do it whilst you wait, £230 inc VAT 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE

I just had the D3 done at JGS 4x4 in Isham, Kettering, they have a brand new machine and they did a full flush, cleaning solution, then added STP additives into the fill up. Cost £260

Drives SO much better now, no more over revving, clunky down changes etc. The old ATF was black at 86K and had a consistency of water, the new oil going in is a lovely honey colour and more viscous. Discovery 4 HSE

Sounds good. as soon as i get td6, it will be off for a gearbox oil and filter change. when i test drove it it was buttery smooth.
i wonder if the zf boxes are stronger?

Just called JGS to enquire on cost for my FFRR, the guy explained the process. I told him he's been recommended by you RRUK, ask for commission next time Laughing

It a 4 hour round trip but i'd rather go to someone that's recommended Dave

I didn't ask Stan, so i'll just go for the flush, he's going to email a quote for the flush as the guy that does it at lunch. I'll let you know the cost Dave

Lots of people add in things like Dr Tranny or STP, they are to reduce heat, improve changes, shuddering etc that are common on older boxes.

Stan, they do not change the filter. The last place who did my TDV8 did not either, this is a polarising subject but with the machine they use, once the old ATF is taken it they then push through a cleaning solution (Don't ask me what specification it is, I saw the bottle but don't remember) and I think he said this was as good as changing the filter. For me, a full fluid change is better than none, even without a new filter and my TDV8 RR that is owned by Fanders is still romping around Europe towing his glider with no issues with over 45,000m on it since I did the flush.

Then the new fluid went in and he reset the gearbox for me. As luck would have it he said there wasn't a single fault code stored on the Discovery which was nice to know. (Previous owner highly unlikely to have known what fault codes are let alone be able to clear them) Discovery 4 HSE

Cost should be the same as mine I'd imagine.

They were a really nice bunch of guys, I'd use them again. Discovery 4 HSE

But its a gearbox and not an engine and not subjected to the by-products of combustion - so not a fair comparison

no excuse really
