Granted, and I’m NO gearbox specialist... My advice taken from several gearbox specialists though is this...

"If it has a filter, change it... Thats why it has a removable/servicable filter... "Whistle

The nonsense bandied around by “flushers” that simply would not have a business model if they had to spend more time on changing filters, therefore charging sometimes double their flushing costs is laughable...

I HAVE had two of my cars megaflushed and i personally think its a valuable service if your fluid is way past its basic serviceable life for sure... BUT, with the filters changed at time of flushing!!! Yes i do have a big problem with people in my industry that cut corners and blag customers!!! & this whole “don’t really need changing guv” crock stinks imho... Rolling Eyes

If the manufacturers fit a filter, gauze, screen etc, then they realised that there would be something floating around in the oil that is not conducive to the overall health of the gearbox, with these boxes being so expensive to rebuild then IMHO it seems a bit daft not to do as much as you can to help it live a long life, it seems to me that these "flush and go" places just want a quick turn around and take your money, rather than doing the job properly...

Just my 2p.... Pete

Well had it done, the magnets were clear of swarf which is good news and the oil was not as bad as I thought it would be, it still had the hint of being transmission fluid colour rather than just black

It does not drive any different - but peace of mind knowing it has been done. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE

Dave,

They told me that the 8 speed on the D4 is a nightmare of a box for access due to other stuff packed in alongside (can't recall what now) and that it means many more hours work of dismantling. It sounded like because Land Rover state all of their boxes are sealed for life (what a crazy notion that is) that they didn't consider the fact someone might want to do this.

I know Craig has the 8 speed on his RR, wonder if it's the same or if the D4 has different gubbins near the box? Discovery 4 HSE

I thought the issue with the Discos was a cross member was in the way hence it being a PITA to do.

I think they're the same box but the FF is vastly easier to access. Ed

A guide on how to change on the D4.

It only changes part of the fluid though.
