Passed with advisories corroded brake pipes all four corners, oil leak (don't drip on the drive) and worn edge on tyre - wheels will be refurbed with new rubber soon. I'll have a look at the pipes may just need a clean and paint any thoughts?

What interested me most was the emissions test results, after years of adding veg oil to Diesel to bring the "smoke" test down I now have a CO pass of 0%, HC of 6ppm and a funny squiggle thing of 1.014 at fast idle and CO of 0% at natural idle. Those banks of ECUs are doing their thing. It may gas guzzle but it does it cleanly!

I call him Oliver after Oliver Reed as it drinks like a fish, but it does it in comfort and puts a smile on my face!

For your and other road users safety the brake pipes will require replacement, once they start corroding the rust is rapid and not worth repainting

Not had a look yet, may well strip out and replace. While I'm at it replace the flexi hoses and total fluid flush. Let's hope the summer comes back and I get a chance get under and have a look

Just to compare, (had my mot this week, passed with advise on brake discs) that's 3 years in a row -of passes..
my figures for the emissions at 165k, are CO, 0.00 (0.01 last year) HC 3ppm (5 ppm last year) and lambda (squiggle) 1.03, (1.03 last year)

I remember when I had an old jag with carbs. The HC limit was 1500, and I was truggling to twiddle it down to pass.
And the CO was about 6.0 % I think the garage staff were nearly all dead by the time it was passing the test.

I think the bmw engine, is a fantastic design. Even at this mileage, it's well below tolerances. It may have its annoyances, like leaks, and things, but light years away from the old classic generation. Just look inside to compare....no black sludge, no tappets noise, solid idle.

As for brake pipes, read up on the forum. Don't ignore it. Consider some new pipes, via an Indy if you are not confident doing them yourself. Materials are cheap, and with some space, it's not a long job.

Excellent news I bet you were a bit nervous dropping it off... No matter how prepared you think the car is there's always the chance of getting stung...

As above the brake pipes are cheap as chips to sort in the scheme of things. DIY'able with the right tools.
