Hi all,

Recently replaced rear brake pads, as the BONG came on "check brake pads".
So installed new brake pads and new sensor, error gone..
But after driving for about 3KM error came back. And then it went for about 20 sec... and came back again...

Faulty sensor I thought... bought a new one...installed it this weekend...
Error gone... But after driving for like 10 minutes. BONG, "replace brake pads".

I know front is good because I just replaced those as well. Also the error went away for a while after replacing the sensor at the rear.

What is wrong? I checked both sensors for any damages but that is not the case. They both look fine.
If I use a paperclip to bridge the sensor/connector fron the car all is fine....

Any thoughts? 2002 L322 V8

Break in the wiring or insulation inboard of where the sensor connects? John

As far as I can see no... Hope I don't have to disconnect all the wiring to check
Could it be anything else? I think the error is in the sensor part, because error does go away after I install new sensor, unfortunately only to come back later... 2002 L322 V8

Have you tried switching ignition on till light goes out about 20 seconds , then switch off again, I think that resets it.

Thanks, tried that as well... Switched key to position 2, (not starting the engine) waited for about 60 seconds... Light doesn't go out... I keep having the red (!) sign and " check brake pads" 2002 L322 V8

Bad connection where the sensor cable connects to car harness?

From memory, there are only two sensors (one on a front wheel and the other on the opposite side rear wheel) which wear through to ground the connection and this triggers the warning. I would check the other sensor for wear or both sets of cables for a short to ground ...

There's no short to ground. It's basically a wire 'loop' that wears though, once worn through it's open circuit and 'bong' brake pad wear light comes on. That means any open in the circuit will cause the same error, it makes it a fail safe system. You have an open circuit or high resistance somewhere, usually it's the connector. Paper clip test (if left connected and light remains out for a long time) confirms it's either the connector making a bad contact with the new sensor lead or there's an issue with the new sensor.

Tried the paperclip... Error came back after a few days (?). Makes me think something is wrong with the connector on the car's end.. But what could be wrong? Looks fine. Wires are connected.. 2002 L322 V8
