Driver door central locking mechanism

Hi, I've got this message with the IID tool: "BPM-Body Processor: 0x59 Driver door central locking mechanism broken" for a while, and recently it happens more often that the driver door will not unlock when unlocking with the remote. When this happens, I have to press the “Lock“ on the remote (the other doors get locked again), and then “Unlock” – and then the driver side door as well unlocks.

What is causing this? Anyone else that have had the same issue?

Since this happens more and more often, I think that I should get this fixed before the driver side door refuses completely to unlock itself with the remote….

Does it work with the key?

Yes, the door will unlock when I use the key in the lock.

What could cause that the central unlock using the remote will not work for the driver door?

RAVE sayeth:

Quote:
Door Latches
The side door latches are sealed units that incorporate separate actuators for locking and superlocking the doors, and a Hall effect sensor to provide a door status signal for the BCU. The driver's door latch incorporates two additional Hall effect sensors to provide signals of lock and unlock selections made with the ignition key in the door lock. Turning the top of the ignition key rearwards sends a lock signal and turning the top of the ignition key forwards sends an unlock signal. The driver and front passenger door latches communicate with the BCU via their respective door modules and the P bus. The rear door latches are connected direct to the BCU.

So, from that I'm reasoning that :

1. The actuators work
2. The additional Hall sensors for the key work
3. So, it's the Hall sensor in the latch not always reporting the door status correctly. Which could be the sensor or wiring. I'd start with the loom from the door to the pillar.

Ian

Thanks Ian, this is a new territory for me - I think that I need to investigate a bit into this.
With "the loom" - is that a wire/connection?
Do you think it only could be a loose wire?

There are a bunch of wires going between the door and the rest of the car. These can get pinched or chafed. This is true on many cars, not just ours! They usually are run in a flexible tube, take a look and you should see it. I've not had to check mine, but I'd expect to need to remove the door trim panel to look. Maybe someone else can chip in on that.

If you decide to take the panel off, there are lots of connections behind the panel for door locks, window switches, the speaker, the puddle light etc. It helps to have another pair of hands, especially when putting it back. Remember that the airbag is behind the panel too so it may be wise to disconnect the battery. There's a good video on YouTube to help.

A "loom" is just the term for a collection of wires run together.
