Service indicator just based off miles? Or time too?

Just a thought... In my Audi the service indicator on the dash would always say "Service in 2000 miles or 30 days", for example. On the FF when you get the service/inspection message is this purely just milage based, or does it take time into account too? Jordan

I always thought mileage only but apparently time is factored in.

The newer cars detect oil quality & do it that way apparently.

Some more info on this thread

Thanks Alistair...I think its every 7.5k miles or 12 months. So if i get an oil service and do, say, 1000 miles in a year, I'd still get a service 'bong' on the dash after 12 months? hmmm Jordan

must be different on the newer cars then?

I bought mine last april with 7000 miles until next service, currently I've still got 3500 miles until the next service but no bongs. Yep, I walk to work so only use it at weekend haha.

I was told that how you drive it also affects it, so if your racing it around circuits every weekend then that would reduce the miles.

Could be wrong though! Dan
