The manual states that the socket in the boot is always live.....
But in the last few evenings I've had some frustration trying to work out why my cool box didn't power on.... Tried other things too - no joy.... Drove to work, tried tyre inflators, powered up..... Tried later at home..... No power. I have just noticed that the socket goes to sleep with the car. Ie when you open a door and the TFT dash comes on for a minute or so, the socket has power. Then it turns off with the screen, and if I lock the car. I assume that the manual is half right, as the ignition was indeed, not on...... So I imagine I need to rewire it or is there some setting? I do have a thing that stops battery drain...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8 Previous cars : 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6 1999 Discovery Td5 ES 1995 BMW M5 3.8 6 speed 1992 Range Rover 3.9 Efi Vogue 1992 BMW M5 3.8 1988 BMW 735i SE 1989 Ford Sierra XR4x4 2.9i 1981 Ford Fiesta Supersport |

Do you have a phone power charger with an LED in it? If you lift up the parcel shelf and plug that in you can easily see for sure by revisiting the car a bit later and peering through the tailgate glass to see if it's still glowing or has gone out.

I bought the battery monitor from the same company who made my cool bov. It has a male socket one one end and a female on the other for 12v appliances, and it has an LED when it has power. I happened to notice it power off at the same time as the dash screen. Shut the car up and locked it, still nomLED, so it ain't gonna run my cooler unless the engine is on really, irrespective of what the manual says.....

Summer's over - You won't be needing that cool box. It's the FBH that you need to be working! 2006 4.2 SC

2010MY onwards the boot socket goes off when the car goes to sleep. However, you have permanent 12v in the OSR cubby in the form of a fat 100a cable going to the front. I just wired mine into that, with appropriate fuse I might add. |

I leave the Engel in there all the time and I've never had a flat battery. And it doesn't get used every day, I have the work hack for that. |

Since we are on the topic and I have an 2008...this socket should work for me as a permanent cooler option.
