did you see or know how they did the update mr G...

I didn't watch them. It is a download with a security code, apparently.......connection to an off-site server. It sometimes takes longer than a half hour because if the download is interrupted, they have to start again.

But does the satnav look or feel any different Giant, or is it simply new roads will be included ?

Mine looked the same after update, so I suppose it's just new roads. Don't know if the calculation of routes are better, not noticed that either. Confused

@ ACKO: No change to the appearance; it is a map update only and I haven't tried any routes yet.

The dealer has however agreed to update it as they had already said they would so at least I can have the latest version.

Will see what difference if any.

Cheapest upgrade is running either Sygic (Tom Tom maps) on your smartphone or Google Maps / Waze if you have enough data allowance. Since Google Maps can work with offline maps as well, it is my preferred one also because I can do the research on my desktop etc. and have the information on my phone quickly available !!

Another option I'm looking at is permanently installing a small Galaxy Tab 7 inch tablet and running that on Android, with its own data SIM card. Bit more expensive than a phone cradle but better than running into issues with ageing maps (mine is also 2010 MY). I ran them side by side during our X-mas / NY trip in the UK and to be fair the RR Nav worked fine. But around 200 GBP for an update is just not on for a Dutchie like me Evil or Very Mad MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
