The annoying squeal from the front pads under light braking got the better of me.

Whipped the wheels off and set about drifting the retainer pins out...2 hours later they've not moved a mm...seized into the caliper. The car is 3 years old...not good. The pads look to be worn unequally each side of the OSF disc too...4mm on one pad and 7mm on the other, so not sure if that indicates a problem?

Going to set about it again this weekend with a bigger hammer and a pin punch with indent...hopefully that along with some release fluid will do the trick...If not, I've asked Dan for a price for new pins ad I'll cut the out. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

How many miles have you done? On three of my L405 the brakes started squeaking under light braking at around 22k miles. All were replaced under warranty.

No wish to teach grandmothers to suck eggs but there aren't little retaining clips holding the pins in place on the blind side of the calliper are there?

Not done this job on a RR (only got mine four days ago) but I know from other vehicles these can be hard to see sometimes and are extremely effective in stopping the pin moving.

I think there was a bulletin and the parts were superceded for this hence under warranty. But only if customer complained, as per normal JLR.

49k might be pushing it.

Did this job on my 2012 Brembo braked L322 last week.
I found the trick was to use release fluid and allow to soak for 30mins, tap the pins from the back (the wrong way!) to release the holding clips, then use a good quality 5mm parallel punch.
The tap at the back works well as the force is not diffused down the long pin to unlock the internal expanding clips
Used to do pads and discs on Le Mans cars in about 40secs....these took me 40 minutes....a side!  2012MY Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Vogue...now gone!

Ha! Pending a respray by the selling dealer of the side vents/gills!

Had Defenders for a few years over on one of Martin's other forums. Great cars, but now sitting a bit more comfortably...
