After painting my calipers and refitting my wheels I've now noticed when tightened up ( havent got a torque wrench ), there is 'slight play' on the nut and seems to move left/right about 1-2mm

I've taken one wheel off and re aligned everything but still the same

Any ideas?

Which Nut? Caliber or wheel? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Wheel nuts

It's either:
1) Not tightened up enough.
2) Stud is spinning so not letting you tighten it up enough.
3) Thread is damaged so it's feeling tight before it actually is.

1) is easy to fix.

2) and 3) you need to take the wheel off and inspect the studs.

It's important that the back of the wheel where it mates the hub and the hub itself are cleaned up, including the hub-centric flange (the middle bit) so the wheel sits flat and true. A thin smear of copper grease on the mating surface to prevent dis-similar metal corrosion is advisable, lets you take the wheels off easier at a later date!

What sized socket are you using?

is it possible that your nuts have swollen and you have used the size up and what you are feeling is the cap moving? The nut itself corrodes under the cap and loosens it off and means that you can't get the 22mm on and have to use a larger than needed socket, get new nuts. is the easiest solution. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The nuts have a stainless cover that fits over the actual nut, you put the socket over these covers, they will have play in them and move a bit, as long as the nuts are done up tight you will be OK....  Pete

Just wish I had read the posts before taking the wheels back off and sanding off all the mating surfaces

Hope you put some grease on those mating surfaces otherwise you will have corroded on wheels the next time you try to take them off....  Pete
