After market under seat Active Subwoofers, any good?

Hi chaps, was wondering if any of you have fitted one of those active under seat active subwoofers, and are they any good? Only I need to improve the bass in the other car, to try and get it somewhere near the ffrr standards Shocked

As this is a working car (ffrr retired) I need all the boot space that I can get so fitting one of those wheel barrow sized things is a non starter... Mercedes fit the Bose system into some of the ML's and the sub Laughing, seen it described as an extra bass box not capable of real low notes, under the seat.... they say the drivers one and then show it under the passenger rear seat in the factory manual Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter That really inspires confidence.... got to admit that Rave is way easier to navigate Wink

So having had a nosey under the seats, I can now see why they only fit a 5.5" "Sub", but I reckon that one of those round 10" ones should fit.... Failing that it will have to be ditch the jack and fit an 8" sub in the hole in the side panel.... didn't really want to go to all that trouble... but I really have to do some thing with the ting Laughing Laughing Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Blaupunkt used to do a few and Boston acoustics years ago that were well rated and some Citroens and pugs use the same kind of unit shoved into a corner of their boots.

I've been looking at Kenwood and Pioneer units, both are only 3.5" high and small enough to go under the passenger seat without any clearance issues, just was a bit worried that they might turnout to be a ting box rather than deep bass.... I suppose that I'll just have to try and cop a S/H unit to try... that way I wouldn't take a hit if it turns out not to be all it promised, and I ditch it on the Bay of Fleas.

I suppose that if they were that bad then the reputable manufactures wouldn't put their names on them Rolling Eyes Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

why not custom build one you will get better results than a generic as they have to take into account space for the amp ,depending on how bothered you are I would buy a five channel amp and run the headunit through that L322 2008 vogue

The only issue with that is I don't have the space available to build it in with a half decent sized enclosure... so I reckon that it will sound a bit pants Sad

Someone has ditched the jack and used the the hole that was left to make an enclosure for an 8" sub.. but I'm not really in to having the side panel out and trying to seal the rear quarter.. think that might be a pig of a job.... and then in true Mercedes forum tradition they posted lots of pictures of the job completed, none during and no explanation as to how they got there Banging Head Banging Head Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... The link is to a Focal unit which is popular in the M-B Vito circles. I had my preferred ICE specialist lined up to upgrade the door speakers with Focal, soundproofing and the 10" Inteli- sub but am selling the V6 soon so shelving the idea.

Two guys I know have them and rate them https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/focal-ibus...0wodp7YJag

It make a huge difference in a Vito but how much difference it would make in a FF, I have no idea.

Whistle Err it's not going in the ffrr.... it's for the Mercedes ML Wink

It's good to know that it's not just waffle on the outside of the box and they do actually make a difference.... The ML being a 7 seater is very limited for places to loose a sub in the first place, Bose put one under the seats, but it's only a 5.5" speaker.... which does some what leave me wondering as to how good it can be in the first place.... at least those after market one's have an 8" speaker Very Happy Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Errr, yes Very Happy It may well come to that, but there really isn't a lot of room under the seats... the drivers side is a no go as it has a draw / lock box under it... the passenger front is the most likely place... but the runners are rather close together and there's a cross member in the way, and the rear seats have lots of junk under them so it's only about 8" deep before the floor kicks up Sad

And there is a distinct lack of shallow 8" subs... plenty of 10" and 12", but I have my doubts as to whether they would fit under the front passenger seat loose let alone in an enclosure.... I will find some thing, or make it.. but I reckon that an enclosure would be hard pushed to be a couple of litres volume after the speaker has been sunk in, and most of the ones I've seen need 20 litres + Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... I have a cunning plan, how much space do you have under the dash in the passenger side as you could use a sub I made years ago which will increase bass but take up little space plus if you enjoy making things this is fairly easy
you need
1) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Monacor-SPM-116-...SwQjNW-~~g
2) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/30163504234...p;ff14=122

fit the speaker into the tube and block off the other end with a piece of mdf try a piece that fits inside first so you can slide it up and down to get the best bass response out of IIRC I faced the speaker into the tube and had it running from a small amp it may look heath robinson but it should work L322 2008 vogue
