Sadly now seen a number of failed EGR valves on 3.6’s and one on a 4.4 where the end of the valve breaks of and the bits go down through the valves and the pistons then stamp them back against the cylinder head, end result in these failures is a scrap head and piston and potentially a scrap block.

She currently in the garage having the head removed to get at the EGR. Well at least that what I think is happening. It's very strange because its running apart from misfire. I see on another thread you are in contact with Land Rover regarding engine failure, I doubt this will be of any help to me. I'm trying to source a replacement engine, but they are costly. If an EGR valve is damaged, what do you suggest I do then? Would like to get her back up and running. Think I'm going to part with her then, sadly whilst much nicer than a LandCruiser. No where near as reliable. If only Land Rovers were as reliable as Toyotas. |

The EGR valve broke and went into the engine. That is where we are currently at.

Sorry to hear that, from here your options are limited by lack of supply of parts from LR.

I'm very sorry to hear it is worse than we hoped. I'd say get a full damage assessment first to see whether it is an engine replacement or a fix of the current engine.

Cheers everyone for your comments and feedback. It is indeed sad that the situation has come to this. However, no one is hurt and I will get her sorted. Alas, each time something like this happens it does damage my passion for the Land Rover brand.

Landcruisers aren't all they're cracked up to be. Our Landcruiser in Nigeria was far less reliable (and comfortable) than my 4.2 SC and that SC wasn't the most reliable either. My 5.0 SC has been faultless to date at 6 years of age and 90k miles.
