TDV8 Possible Injector Failure

Hello. So I've had my first brake down with my new RR 3.6.

I think it's a injector.

Let me start at the beginning. Ever since I've had this RR it was slightly hesitate/ lumpy on ticket over when in drive, reverse and neutral. Quick Rev and away she went. Then the odd time when at 40-60mph it will be slightly and I mean slightly hesitan, but would always over come the issue.

Anyways, yesterday on the motorway at 90mph, she loses power and the dash displays Engine Systems Fault. I pull over to the side of the road and notice the it's extremely lumpy ticketover, as if one cylinder is not working.

The handheld computer pointed to a fault with a) injector 2 cylinder b) Bank a & b inbalance.

The recover guy said it sounded like a injector from listening to the engine running and also it had a small bit of white smoke. Starts perfectly. Anyone else experience anything like this before? Thumbs Up

Sounds likely to be an injector issue or potentially a EGR value with the end dropped off, don't ask how I know that one...

good luck with the repairs

I cant recall reading about a tdv8 injector failure. Try the cheap easy solutions first like a good injector cleaner.

Have you checked the turbo hoses, maybe a small crack developing that is causing issues. Check connectors/wiring etc.

Check for the easy to spot, common issues of the TDV8 as you can see here on the forum before you start going down the expensive road with testing and replacing injectors Smile. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

No more info yet for you guys. She is currently with the mechanic so I'm hoping to know more tomorrow. Really hoping it is the case of a failed injector, as I can get it refurbished or replaced quickly and easily. Turbos, EGRs etc etc is much more expensive.

My only fear is that the turbo has gone and somehow damaged the engine. The mechanic seems to think this is not the case, and it is fuel related. Cylinder 2 is not working, thats all I know so far. Hopefully some good news tomorrow.

If it is just one cylinder not working (properly) than it is unlikely to be turbo related and much more likely to be the fuel supply to that cylinder (well in a diesel engine of course). It could still be wiring/connector as well though.

Hoping for the best ! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I agree. Could be a loom or connector fault. ______________________________

I still get that slight lumpiness.
Detectable at idle. Needle even moves.
Running OK generally, though my mechanic and I have been trying to understand why SOMETIMES the engine is very clackety and other times it is so smooth and quiet.
Cylinder test OK. No Injector or Fuel pressure faults showing. FullFat Porridge

Number 2 isn't pulsing. But the mechanic said he blanked this injector off and it didn't make much difference to the engine tone? He seems to think more injectors could be faulty. He is going to be working on it tomorrow morning. Any other tips? He seems convinced that it's only an injector problem. However, I'm not so sure.

Could this be a turbo failure?

Still waiting. The mechanic isn't the rushing type! But no harm, hopefully will have full details tomorrow. First second I know, I will report back here.

Fingers Crossed for a good outcome.

Injectors are working anyways.

Now the real issues begin. Where would you suggest we start? Is it head off time.
