Range Rover L322 key fobs

Folks,

I bought the RR in my signature early December last year, it came with 3 remote control fobs. Two appear OK but the third is very tatty and the rubber is split on the main lock button.

My questions are;

1. Can I buy a new outer case/fob for it and just re-fit the electronic bit inside? I am presuming not and will require the key to be cut and this is not removable?

2. Where can I buy replacement screws and the screw cover for the back of the fob? Each fob has two screws and the head on most of them are almost gone.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

I had the same issue and sent my dodgy one to these guys........

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Repair-Service-F...c889a1e4a[

Did an excellent job although you'll need to program the key when they return it - 2 minute job.

There are quite a few posts on here about how to programme the key fobs. The guys that did mine also sent me a procedure on what to do - it only involves a sequence of button presses on the new remote to link it to the car. Once you've done the new one you need to reprogramme the existing fob also.

From the web ...

Programming a new Key

Replacing a missing master key is quite expensive from Land Rover, try not to get sucked into the extra cost of "Dealer coding" You can do this yourself in 2 minutes by following the simple process below.

1) Get in and close all doors. Turn ignition on and off quickly and remove the key (all within about 5 seconds).

2) Within 30 seconds of turning the ignition off, while holding down the "unlock" button, press the "lock" button three times. Release the "unlock" button. (You may or may not get the confirmation from the door locks.) Holding the key at your head level provides best results as the key sensor is in the side window pillar.

3) Repeat for each key you want to initialize within 30 seconds after the last one you initialized (if you have more).

4) Right after doing the last key, quickly put the key back in the ignition and turn it on/off again to finalize.

I used the above procedure on my two keys when I changed batteries and it works.

What would the problem with using one of these be?

Just observe the tiny piece of black plastic and its position, as you open up the key. Don't lose it, it is the brain of the key. The circuit board is the mechanics. The pice is only about 10mm long and is sort of triangular from memory. It looks like a broken shard of 'old key shell' it isn't, it's the unique piece and necessary of key to change over.
