Another Garage Visit, this time it will be staying there.

So another month of Range Rover ownership passes by and another visit to the dealer to fix yet another problem.

As it turns out the most expensive car I have ever bought also seems to be the most unreliable, I have zero confidence that if I want to take the car out for a drive I will neither get to my destination or home again without either it breaking down completely, the reduced engine power warning or some sort of other warning light coming on.

I have owned the car for 10 months as of now and so far the list of faults and visits

4 times to get a piece of rusted window trim replaced (Bubbling under the surface, nothing major, but I wanted it perfect when I bought it, kept ordering the wring bit)

6 times for the DPF filter, with numerous tellings off that it must be the way I drive the car and that every trip I must drive at 120kmh for 10km to clear it, turns out there was some sort of pipe that was clogged/damaged preventing cleaning.

2 times for the sensor on the top of the strut, which disables the suspension.

and the straw that broke the camels back the inlet manifold has decided to break? which means they have to replace the injectors and a load of other parts according to Land Rover.

Everything has been covered under warranty after a lot of arguing apart from the last one, which now turns out will cost me 2600 euros.

I have driven less than 5000km in the last 10 months, partly because when I go anywhere i need to get there and get back so always look past the RR to the BMW which has served me faithfully every time. The most common phrase uttered in the RR was “Oh look another light, I am done with this F**king car!” Smile

So I have decided to take it back to the dealer and tell them to take it back or sell it for me. This has really put me off RR after admiring for a long time.

Feels nice to get this all out, but I will be sad to see it go because it promised so much more. Sad

Edit: So its a 2011 L322

sounds like your window trims, were just minor detail. they all go rotten in the end, mine were. The DPF was maybe an oversight from a service, or previous owner meddling. The strut sensor, might just be 'one of those things' cant comment on that, but the inlet manifold, surely thats covered on the warranty, and injectors changed, that sounds like garbage, but i dont know your model. the worst bit being the 2600 euros, on you bill. i understand your frustrations, but that surely needs more conversation, as the manifold doesnt just break....i know many are plastic thesedays, but how could it be not warrantied?

Minors

@johnboyairey

I know the trim was minor, but when you pay 46k for a car you want it to be right Smile

Also the strut sensor I know is a common problem, but again its just anther thing which required multiple visits to be fixed.

As for the inlet manifold its plastic, they have said when the consulted with Land Rover they stated they needed to replace all 8 injector valves and fuel lines!?!

replace fuel lines and injectors...... because they are all faulty, or its all 'one unit' from the factory?

have you put this problem to the forum?

i have the older 4.4 v8, (bmw petrol) the injectors, are mounted on the plastic manifold, with rubber seals. should these require removal, you replace the old injectors, with new seals. i think your engine, (jag v8 non SC) has slightly different injection, being they are much nearer to the valve. i dont know much more, but it does seem to me, to be 'dealer baloney' new injectors? and lines?
anyone else got anything to say?

Apart from the manifold, these are minor issues that seem to have been escalated for you by an inept dealer. I had a similar experience here in the UK when I bought our last fatty, although that was 9 years ago. It took the idiot dealer nearly 12 months to sort out the delivery issues (mostly minor) and they never did get the aircon to work properly (I did, it was the hedgehog resistor!). Everything worked out fine in the end when I started taking the car to my local indie and it's been pretty reliable now for 8 years and 50k miles in our ownership (done 93k total). It's still a lovely car. Drives:

Indy

I really wish I had an indy here, but living in Germany I dont actually know of an LR specialists in the area (What a difference from the UK where I had 4 within a 20mile radius)

After the last visit to the dealer i said that if anything else went wrong that was it. My wife wont even drive it anymore because she is scared of breaking down with the kids and being stuck. I just cant get over the cost of the repairs and the things that have gone wrong. I have spent more time in the garage with this car than I have with my previous 15 years of car ownership. Sad

Could this be a case of an inept German dealership? The FF is not common in Germany so i guess the dealers are NOT very knowledgable???

I would (in your shoes) find a better dealer/take the car elsewhere?

Is your warranty from JLR? If so and you bought your FF from a MD all repairs will be covered for 2 yrs, by any dealer in Europe! No???

Most of the faults you describe are quite common and straight forward to repair BUT! If you have a poor MD!!! It’ll make the whole ownership thing much more unpleasant... Neutral

I have every sympathy with you fatbob and would almost certainly feel the same in the same circumstances. There is no reason why the dealer couldn't have fixed the minor faults at the first attempt and the manifold should definitely be a warranty item. In my experience with anything slightly obscure (which this is) the first port of call is to claim it isn't covered. Check the terms and conditions of your warranty. If it transpires that they have managed to exclude it, then at that age L-R should make a very significant contribution to the repair. They are marketing what they want us to believe is a premium product and that requires a premium service. Too many manufacturers try this on, and all they are doing is charging a premium price for a mass market service and customers won't be fooled forever. Drives:
